CF Monterrey vs Club Tijuana Prediction

CF Monterrey vs Club Tijuana Club Prediction

Monterrey will look to add to their three-match unbeaten run at home after registering a slender 1-0 win over Pumas UNAM in the last fixture. However, the hosts will look to resolve their ability to create chances in front of goal after salvaging all three points in an evenly poised match against Club Tijuana. Monterrey converted their only shot on target into a goal through Arturo Gonzalez (90+3’) in the dying minutes, while Pumas UNAM failed to find the back of the net.

Club Tijuana will have their task cut out in the upcoming match after their 10-man registered a 0-1 loss to Queretaro in the previous fixture away from home. The match was evenly poised, but Tijuana struggled to find the back of the net, with Pablo Berrera (83’) netting the winning goal in the second half.

CF Monterrey are the favorites to win the contest as Club Tijuana continues to show their struggle away from home.

Previous Meetings

CF Monterrey and Club Tijuana have faced off 31 times in Liga MX since their first meeting in July 2011.

In their previous meeting, Monterrey ran riot against Tijuana to clinch a 4-0 victory at home. The visitors enjoyed most of the possession but could have displayed their creativity to find the back of the net. A first-half brace from Rodrigo Aguirre (5’, 22’) and two goals from German Berterame (32’, 76’) on either side of the halves guided Monterrey to a clinical victory.

Monterrey will look to defend their fortress in the upcoming match after registering three wins and one loss in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Club Tijuana has struggled in the away fixtures and will look to break the duck in testing conditions after registering five losses on the trot.

Monterrey Eager to Break Into the Top Three

Monterrey are hungry for the title this season, and despite a temporary stutter after the break, the club is looking to break into the top three of the 2023 Apertura table while extending their unbeaten run to four games.

The Fernando Ortiz-managed club needs one win to break into the top three and topple San Luis with one match in hand. Monterrey has accumulated 20 points in 11 matches, while San Luis has 22 in 12 fixtures.

Hosts to Miss Out on Key Players

Ortiz will look to manage his side without his key players in front of the goals. Berterame (foot injury), Jesus Corona (thigh injury), Joao Rojas (thigh injury), and Sergio Canales (thigh injury) will miss out on the upcoming match due to their respective injuries.

Berterame has netted once and assisted as many in three appearances, and Corona has assisted one goal. Rojas has scored twice in two matches, while Canales has netted thrice in five appearances.

Monterrey to Bank on Mori-Meza

Without the key players, the onus of scoring the goals will be completely on their leading goal scorer, Rogelio Morio. The Mexican has netted four times and assisted twice in nine appearances.

He will find support in midfielder Maximiliano Meza, who will operate from the right wing. The 30-year-old has scored two and assisted as many in 11 appearances. Left winger Cortizo will be another key player in the hosts' setup. The Mexican has made his presence felt by netting one goal and assisting twice in 10 appearances.

Club Tijuana Desperate for Respite on the Road

Underdogs Club Tijuana will be desperate for an away win against Monterrey. The visitors are on a seven-match winless run away from home in all competitions and will look to improvise on their poor show.

In the six away games Club Tijuana have played so far, they have only managed to win one. They have drawn one and lost four of the other games. Their only away win of the season came against Puebla in the beginning of September.

A Positive Result Will Put Tijuana and Monterrey at Parity

The visitors have an outside chance of matching Monterrey’s points tally. Tijuana have accumulated 17 points in 12 matches with five wins and two draws.

If the Miguel Herrera-managed club registers an upset over Monterrey, then they can equal the hosts’ tally with 20 points, having played two matches more.

Visitors to Bank on Talismanic Forward

The visitors will bank on their talismanic forward, Carlos Gonzalez, to find the goals against a staunch Monterrey side.

The Paraguayan striker has scored eight goals and assisted once in 11 appearances for Tijuana. The 30-year-old has netted three goals in the last three matches.
