Tigres UANL vs Toluca Prediction

Tigres UANL vs Toluca Prediction

Tigres UANL will be outright favorites to win the clash against Toluca and keep their dominance in the Liga MX Apertura intact.

The hosts have maintained a two-match unbeaten run at home and will look to add to the streak. Interestingly, they have also maintained a clean sheet in these games. Tigres UANL thumped Monterrey 3-0 in their last home game. French forward Andre-Pierre Gignac (29’. 59’) scored a brace for the hosts, while Diego Lianez (71’) added a third to cap off a clinical performance.

Toluca displayed signs of struggle in their last away fixture against Club Tijuana and will look to make amends to their approach. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute after Jean Meneses was sent off with a red card. Club Tijuana’s Carlos Gonzalez (12’) and Fernando Madrigal (18’) put them ahead early in the first half, while Robert Morales (90+6’) netted the consolation in injury time.

Previous Meetings

Tigres UANL and Toluca have faced off 32 times since their first meeting in 2010. Toluca has maintained an upper hand in the rivalry with 14 wins to their name, while Tigres have won 10, and eight matches ended in a draw.

In their previous meeting, both clubs faced off in the Liga MX Clausura quarterfinals second leg. It was an evenly poised match, but Toluca was more clinical with their finishing to grab a 3-1 win in the home leg.

Edgar Lopez (26’, 53’) scored a brace, and Marcel Ruiz (45+3’) netted once for the hosts, while Sebastian Cordova found the consolation for Tigres. Tigres have held their fortress and will look to add to their dominance. They have won four and drawn once in their last five appearances at home.

Meanwhile, the visiting Toluca will search for consistency, as they have won once, drawn twice, and lost one in their last four away fixtures.

Tigres UANL Chasing League Leaders

Tigres will be eager to seal all three points in the match to consolidate their second spot in the current Apertura season. The Robert Siboldi-managed club is currently one point short of league leaders Club America after remaining unbeaten in their last five fixtures.

Club America is scheduled to host Pachuca at home. They are the strong favorites to win the contest. However, if the match ends in a draw or the hosts lose, then Club America will lose their pole position to the defending champions.

Hosts Expected To Rely On French Talisman

Tigres UANL will bank on their French forward Gignac to produce a match-winning performance in order to secure all three points for the club. The 37-year-old has scored five goals in seven appearances, including two penalties. He has been the most valuable player for the club early in the season, with three assists to his name.

Midfielders Jonathan Herrera and Juan Vigon have netted thrice for the club, while forward Nicolas Ibanez also has three goals to his name. The trio will look to add to the scoresheet in the upcoming match.

Ortega Nearing Return For Hosts

Goalkeeper Miguel Ortega is nearing a return for the Tigres. He has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since May 2023 and missed the early part of the league.

The 28-year-old is expected to make a return for the side at some point in October. His return will surely hand the hosts a massive boost in their box.

Toluca Desperately Searching For Win

Toluca will have their task cut out against a formidable Tigres UANL side. However, they will be desperate for a win after being winless in the last three matches. Toluca registered 1-1 draws against Guadalajara and Club America while losing 1-2 to Club Tijuana in their last three matches.

The club will take positives from their last win, which came in a home fixture against Pachuca. Toluca displayed an all-round performance to thrash Pachuca 5-0 in that fixture.

Dominguez Setback Toluca

Toluca have not been consistent in front of the goal, but their leading goal scorer, Juan Dominguez, has found some rhythm for the side.

The Mexican has scored four times and assisted once in seven appearances for the club. However, he will miss out on the upcoming clash due to his shoulder injury in September.

Maximiliano Araujo Needs To Step Up

In these testing times, his compatriot and midfielder Maximiliano Araujo will be expected to step up to his boots. He has netted two goals and assisted once in 10 appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, forward Pedro Raul has scored two in seven appearances. The Brazilian also scored two and assisted a goal in three Leagues Cup starts
