Early NBA Over/Under Projected Win Totals 2019-2020: Los Angeles Is at the Top!

The NBA Offseason is in full-swing and it has been eventful, to say the least. Zion Williamson found a new home in New Orleans but missed the majority of Las Vegas Summer League. The Memphis Grizzlies didn’t find a problem in that, as they took home the Summer League Championship with Canadian rookie Brandon Clarke taking home the MVP award for the tournament.

The offseason isn’t close to finished, but rosters and coaching staffs are really coming together. According to the most recent projections, the power in the NBA lies in Los Angeles. Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James are battling for supremacy with the NBA’s most capable sidekicks in Anthony Davis and Paul George.

If you are in New Jersey you can bet on the Win Totals for the 2019/2020 NBA season on 888Sport and BetStars. Find the most recent projections below. Good luck!

Front-Runners: Los Angeles Leads the Way

LA Clippers

With the acquisition of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers are currently leading the projected win total. However, parity in the NBA has recovered, as only 6.5 games separates the estimated win totals of the top six teams.

The Los Angeles Clippers sit at the top of the table as they now boast the talents of the reigning NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, third-place League MVP finalist Paul George and reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams. While they may share a stadium with the more historically successful Los Angeles Lakers, oddsmakers are giving the season to the Clippers.

Utah Jazz

Key Acquisitions: G Mike Conley, F Bojan Bogdanovic, C Ed Davis

The Utah Jazz disappointed in last years NBA Playoffs but Salt Lake City doesn’t seem intent to repeat their previous disappointments. They’ve acquired the leading guard they’ve needed in Mike Conley and added a capable secondary scorer in Bojan Bogdanovic. Throw in returning and reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz seem primed to overachieve this coming season.

Los Angeles Lakers

Key Acquisitions: F Anthony Davis, C DeMarcus Cousins, G Danny Green

LA Lakers – Total Team Wins

LeBron James seems to have finally rebuilt the super team he’s craved since his days in Miami. With Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in the fold, their potential is limitless. By acquiring an impressive host of role players highlighted by two-time NBA Champion Danny Green, the Lakers’ roster is a lot more promising than their opening win total suggests.

It is interesting to see the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz open ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers in win totals. The Houston Rockets also have something to say, considering they’ve swapped Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The top of the NBA will be more competitive than ever this coming season.

Middle-Tier: Underrated, Underappreciated

In the middle portion of the projected win total list, you’ll find a number of surprising teams. The reigning NBA Champion Toronto Raptors have taken a massive tumble while the Brooklyn Nets are in a grey area with their two biggest acquisitions being unable to play together until next season.

Brooklyn Nets

Key Acquisitions: F Kevin Durant, G Kyrie Irving, C DeAndre Jordan

The Brooklyn Nets proved themselves to be the main attraction in New York, rather than the historic New York Knicks. By acquiring two of the NBA’s most coveted free agents in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets have vaulted their win total projection. The downside is that Kevin Durant remains out for the upcoming season due to calf/achilles surgery.

Toronto Raptors

Key Acquisitions: None

The reigning NBA Champion Toronto Raptors couldn’t celebrate for long, as their star player Kawhi Leonard left the North for his home town La Clippers. Projected to win 13.5 fewer games than last season, the Raptors have a lot to prove. While they’ve not added many pieces due to cap constraints, Toronto looks to improve internally as the keys to the franchise are handed over to budding star Pascal Siakam.

New Orleans Pelicans

Key Acquisitions: F Zion Williamson, G Lonzo Ball, G-F Brandon Ingram, G JJ Redick, C Derrick Favors

Despite being the joke of the NBA last season due to the Anthony Davis soap opera, the Pelicans have come out of the situation with a realistically impressive side. While they are incredibly young, they’ve allied themselves with veterans like JJ Redick and Derrick Favors to guide their young stars. It’s a new start for the likes of Ball and Ingram, while rookies Williamson and Alexander-Walker project to be some of the best in the NBA. The Pelicans could make some real noise.

Minnesota Timberwolves 34.5 34.5

The projection of the Brooklyn Nets seems ambitious at this point, while that of the Toronto Raptors is incredibly surprising. You’ll also have to keep your eyes on the Miami Heat, who added Jimmy Butler to lead the Wade-less side. While the Blazers and Spurs are mainstays, don’t be surprised to see sides like the Mavericks and Magic overcome their modest projections.

Bottom-Tier: Still Work to be Done

This group of teams are clearly in the rebuilding phase. As the Knicks struck out in 2019 free agency, they added a number of pieces to prepare themselves for free agency in 2021. Meanwhile, the Hawks, Bulls, and Grizzlies are sides with some impressive youthful assets.

Atlanta Hawks

Key Acquisitions: F Jabari Parker, C Bruno Fernando, G-F Cam Reddish

The Atlanta Hawks are a curious team. While they are incredibly young, the prospective pairing of Trae Young and John Collins seems set to take another step next season. They’ve added a proven scorer in Jabari Parker, while their incoming rookie draftees have some incredible potential.

Memphis Grizzlies

Key Acquisitions: G Tyus Jones, C Dwight Howard, G Ja Morant, F-C Brandon Clarke

The Memphis Grizzlies are a team in rebuilding mode to say the least. After trading away Mike Conley, the Grizzlies have their eyes on the future. Rookie point guard Ja Morant seems transcendent while rookie centre Brandon Clarke showed that a blue-collar work ethic is translatable to the NBA. They have a number of savvy veterans in Jones, Howard, and Valanciunas to help guide their young stars.

There are some teams to watch in this bottom tier. The Atlanta Hawks and the Memphis Grizzlies have an interesting young core at their disposal. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are still led by one of the NBA’s best shooting guards in Devin Booker – who will finally have a reliable point guard in Ricky Rubio.

The New York Knicks have overhauled their roster to currently unknown results. The Chicago Bulls are also in the mix, as they have added Coby White to join an interesting and hopefully healthy young cast including Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine, and Wendell Carter Jr. These teams may not project to be playoff-bound, but young sides always have the potential to exceed expectations.
