The 2024 NCAA Tournament did not have the excitement of last year, but it set us up for a fantastic championship game. The Purdue Boilermakers will take on the top-seeded UConn Huskies in a matchup between two elite teams. The Huskies have succeeded with their depth and balance, while Purdue has relied on superstate Zach Edey.

We could not have asked for a better championship game to finish this year’s March Madness. On one side is a Purdue team led by a giant star down low. On the other is a UConn team that won it in 2023 and has looked even better in 2024. Both teams are championship-worthy, but only one will cut down the nets on Monday.
As good as Purdue is, we don’t see tonight’s championship game being much different than last year’s. Purdue will challenge SDSU more, but their biggest weapon will have his hands full tonight. Zach Edey is why Purdue has reached the final game, averaging 28.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks over their five tournament games. The rest of the team is good, but they are not a championship-level squad without Edey.
Edey will be facing his most difficult challenge yet. UConn Sophomore Donovan Clingan is 7’2” and 280 pounds. That is still smaller than Edey, but he is one of the most dominant defenders in the league. He is averaging a ridiculous 3.6 blocks per game, including four in their Final Four matchup with Alabama. Clingan is also impressive on offense, averaging 16.2 points and a 64.8 FG%.
Clingan will be the biggest challenge that Edey has faced (including DJ Burns Jr.). We see it slowing the Purdue big man down. Given how much better the rest of UConn is compared to Purdue, it will lead to another impressive win in the championship game for UConn.
The March Madness betting season can be overwhelming if you are just starting to wager on sports. There is a large slate of games, and several different bet types are available.
Below are some of BetMGM’s most common betting markets for March Madness.
Moneyline betting is the most straightforward option for any sportsbook. If the team you bet on wins, your bet wins. There is no need to worry about how many points are scored or the winning margin, making it an easy bet to make and track.
While moneyline betting is easy, the odds are not always favorable. The larger the favorite, the more money you will have to bet. This type of bet is best when picking upsets or wagering on close games.
This is one of the most popular bets during March Madness. Unlike moneyline betting, you are wagering on the final margin of victory. BetMGM will list a spread representing what they believe the margin will be for the favorite. The final winner of the game doesn’t matter when betting against the spread, making it a great option when you’re looking to bet on lopsided matchups.
For example, let's say Wisconsin is favored over James Madison by 10.5 points. If you think the Badgers will win by at least 11 points, you’ll bet on them -10.5. If you believe they will lose or win by a smaller margin, you’ll bet on James Madison +10.5.
Betting on the total is another popular option during the NCAA Tournament. Instead of betting on a team, you are wagering on the total points that will be scored in a game. BetMGM will predict the total, allowing bettors to wager if the final score will be over or under that amount.
Like with spread betting, the winner of the game doesn’t matter, making it a great option for games where you are unsure who will win.
Prop bets refer to wagers based on player, team, or game stats instead of the final result. Examples of prop bets include player point totals, team points by half, and if the game will go to overtime.
BetMGM has a vast catalog of prop bets, though several states do not allow player prop betting on college games. However, you can still be on game props, such as the first to score or point totals per half.
