UConn has won and covered in 11 straight tournament games
Purdue dominated NC State in the Final Four
Zach Edey leads the country in PPG with 29.4
The National Championship is set. The UConn Huskies will look to win their second straight title, which hasn’t been done since the 2006-07 Florida Gators.
UConn has won and covered in 11 straight NCAA Tournament games, dominating every team in its path over the past two seasons. Yet, the Huskies still have a massive challenge against Zach Edey and Purdue on Monday.
The Boilermakers have also had a very dominant tournament run. They had one challenging game against Tennessee in the Sweet 16 but still pulled off a 72-66 victory. For the Boilermakers to compete with UConn, they must be flawless for 40 minutes.
Here, we will break down the National Championship between Purdue and UConn.

The Purdue Boilermakers earned a lousy reputation over the past three seasons in the NCAA Tournament. Despite having two-time Player of the Year Zach Edey at center, the Boilermakers have still been eliminated by terrible teams.
Three years ago, they were taken down by #13 North Texas. They followed this loss by falling to #15 St. Peter's and #16 Fairleigh Dickinson in the following two NCAA Tournaments.
Only two #1 seeds have ever lost to a #16 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It first happened to Virginia, who won the National Championship the following season. Purdue will repeat Virginia’s history if they can shock the Huskies on Monday.
The Boilermakers have won all season because of Edey. He is the player the team looks to when the game is on the line. He has led the team in scoring in every NCAA Tournament game.
He is coming off a 20-point game against NC State, which was his worst of the tournament. The center will match up with Donovan Clingan, which should make for excellent theatre.
Edey must get Clingan into foul trouble because he is the most significant piece to UConn’s winning puzzle.
UConn has posted an unprecedented run over the past two NCAA Tournaments. They haven’t had a close game over their past 11 contests and are coming off a win over Alabama, where the Crimson Tide played great.
Despite Alabama’s constant onslaught from the three-point line, UConn still prevailed. Connecticut is so hard to beat because they have so much talent. Freshman Stephon Castle led the team in scoring with 21 points against Alabama.
Castle, one of the best freshmen in the country, isn’t known for scoring. However, Alabama gave him countless wide-open shots, and Castle made him pay.
Cam Spencer, a first-team All-Big East selection, had eight rebounds in the win, including three on the offensive glass. Connecticut has multiple stars who can make shots at the perimeter and a great center with Clingan.
UConn and Purdue will be a competitive matchup for 30 minutes. However, it takes a perfect game to beat Connecticut, and Purdue doesn’t have the same cast of stars.
Edey may get the best of Clingan in the paint, but UConn’s overall team will wear down the Boilermakers. Look for the Huskies to run away with the game and win their second straight National Championship.
