A new episode of Ride the Line with Grant Mitchell and Tanner Kern is out now on all WSN platforms!

MLB Best Bets

The show starts off with Grant and Tanner recapping their Fourth of July endeavors. One of the mutual highlights was enjoying the dominance of Joey Chestnut, the now 16-time champion of the Independence Day hot dog eating contest.

In case you missed it, the event was called off because of lightning, but Chestnut convinced the organizers to proceed with the event and then went on to dominate the field as he typically does.

Putting the hot dogs in the past and looking to the future, Tanner likes the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers to go under 5.5 runs in the first half of Wednesday’s game. He believes that the pitching matchup of Jon Gray versus Brayan Bello is a solid counter to the high-powered hitters that will be standing in the box.

Grant’s first pick is on the Houston Astros -1.5 against the Colorado Rockies. They have an advantage on the mound with J.P. France against Chase Anderson, who has an ERA over 7.00 on the road and was the man on the mound the day the Los Angeles Angels lit up the Rockies for 25 runs. The Rockies are also just 13-30 on the road and already lost the first meeting in the series 4-1.

Tanner’s next pick goes hand-in-hand with his first pick, and it is for Bello to get more than 4.5 strikeouts against the Rangers. He has hit the over in four of his last five starts and had a 2.14 ERA in June, all of which are good indicators that he will get to play enough innings to cash the over. The only source of concern is that the Rangers have strong hitters, and if they get to him early, he could be yanked from the game.

More MLB Bets Wednesday

The next pick of the show is for the Detroit Tigers to bounce back from a 1-0 loss Tuesday and to cover the runline against the Oakland Athletics. One of the catalysts for this bet is the pitching matchup between Ken Waldichuk (1-5, 6.78 ERA) and Eduardo Rodriguez (4-4, 2.13 ERA). Even though Rodriguez is making his return from an injury, Waldichuk has been flat-out awful, and the Tigers will find ways to score runs if they have any sense of professional pride.

Tanner’s final pick of the show is the Chicago Cubs’ moneyline against the Milwaukee Brewers. He likes Justin Steele more than he likes Adrian Houser and also believes the Cubbies have the more talented offense. Grant is wary of this pick because of the Cubs’ recent skid but acknowledged the momentum they gained from Tuesday’s win and is also comfortable putting his faith in Steele.

Grant’s final pick is for the San Diego Padres to cover the runline against a Los Angeles Angels team that might lose Shohei Ohtani because of a blister on his hand and will be without Mike Trout, Brandon Drury, Anthony Rendon, and Zach Neto. The Padres have won three of their last four and already comfortably beat the Angels in this series and simply need to win if they still have ambitions to reach the postseason.
