A new episode of Ride the Line with Grant Mitchell and Tanner Kern is now live on all WSN platforms!

Cowboys vs. Chargers Picks and Best Bets

Just as every Monday show does, the boys started with a quick recap of what was the craziest weekend of betting in the 2023 NFL season.

Sportsbooks won big as the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles lost outright. Grant also got burned by the Seattle Seahawks’ red zone struggles and Mac Jones taking a late safety against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Grant and Tanner are hoping to get back on the horse on Monday Night Football when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Los Angeles Chargers as 1.5-point favorites.

Both co-hosts like the Cowboys on the moneyline despite the Chargers coming off a bye week. They joked that the extra time to game plan might do them a disservice because of how poorly Brandon Staley has done with his team in big moments.

Grant likes the Cowboys to bounce back because that’s the kind of team they are. They’re way up until they’re way down, and this is the classic scenario where they rebound from a huge loss. Tanner believes they're just flat-out the better team and does not have much respect for LA.

That comment led to an impromptu power ranking of Super Bowl contenders. The general takeaway was that the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are the top contenders, but everyone else is fighting for scraps, and the pool of great NFL teams is very thin.

Looking back at the MNF matchup, Grant doesn’t see the point in laying the extra point and a half on the Cowboys’ spread and advises bettors to take their moneyline. Neither he nor Tanner have a play on the total, which, at greater than 50 points, is one of the highest of the week. Primetime matchups have also trended under, although these offenses can score points in a hurry.

Monday Night Football Player Props

Grant likes Dak Prescott to have a strong night throwing the ball after a rough start to the year. The line has moved around but has settled at 253.5 yards as of Monday morning, and Dak threw for 255, 249, and 261 yards from Weeks 2-4 (but has only gone over this total twice). That said, the Chargers allowed 299.8 yards passing to opponents to start the year.

Tanner likes the other QB, Justin Herbert, for his favorite prop and is taking him to throw more than 1.5 touchdowns. He’s split the over/under 2-2, but Dallas is without top corner Trevon Diggs and will struggle to contain Keenan Allen.

Coincidentally, Grant also likes Allen to have a strong day, whether that be with yards or touchdowns. His 44 targets are more than twice as many as the next-closest player (Joshua Palmer - 21) aside from Mike Williams, who is injured and will not feature on Monday.

With the picks out of the way, the boys wanted to close out the show by sharing their thoughts on the recent spike in juice for anytime touchdown scorer props. Sportsbooks have Tony Pollard priced as steep as -180 to score a touchdown Monday despite him failing to cross the pylons since Week 1. That’s four straight games he’s been kept out of the end zone.

Ekeler is also -220 as an anytime touchdown scorer at certain sportsbooks, which Grant and Tanner agree is not worth the juice. Grant theorized that Christian McCaffrey’s recent touchdown streak has caused the sportsbooks to react and shorten odds for other players, but he is mostly avoiding minus-odds TD bets.
