Kalshi vs. DraftKings Predictions: Which Prediction Market Platform Should You Use in 2026?
Kalshi is a better overall prediction market platform than DraftKings Predictions.
Kalshi is a standalone trading exchange with its own clearinghouse and markets that stretch well beyond sports. It’s widely considered the best prediction market product alongside Polymarket and is aimed at experienced traders.
DraftKings Predictions are much more sports-focused and designed for existing DraftKings users who want to enter prediction markets with as little friction as possible. After acquiring Railbird Exchange in October 2025, DK Predictions now also owns a CFTC-designated exchange of its own, so it’s not simply a sportsbook add-on anymore.
That’s the short answer. To find out where these platforms truly stand, we’ll have to do a more detailed Kalshi vs. DraftKings Predictions comparison and see how the two fare against each other in areas that matter most.

Kalshi Regulations and Availability
Kalshi operates KalshiEX LLC, a CFTC-designated contract market. In 2026, Kalshi also moved its contracts onto Kalshi Klear, its affiliated clearinghouse, after receiving regulatory approval.
Kalshi doesn't publish a comparable state-by-state market availability map like DraftKings. The platform itself states that its exchange is available across all US states and territories, but individual market types or promotions can still have separate eligibility restrictions. Due to active legal disputes, sports markets are not available for users from AZ, IL, MA, MD, MT, NV, NJ, and OH.
DraftKings Predictions Regulations and Availability
DraftKings Predictions operates as a CFTC-registered futures intermediary and NFA member. The company made a major move into exchange infrastructure when it acquired Railbird Technologies and Railbird Exchange in October 2025.
DraftKings Predictions separates jurisdictions into four categories.

Kalshi vs. DraftKings Predictions Market Variety
Market selection is where the two platforms differ most, with Kalshi a clear winner in the total number of categories, events, and individual markets.
Kalshi Market Variety
Kalshi’s current catalog is very broad, with over 20 sports and 10 real-world categories. Apart from major leagues and competitions, Kalshi covers sports that aren’t offered at DraftKings Predictions, including MMA, cricket, esports, table tennis, and special yearly events like the NYC Marathon.
The options within individual sports events are also bigger than what most competitors offer. For example, a typical NFL game has loads of props, including player touchdowns, total team yards, and even fantasy points.
Kalshi also has a parlay-style Combos feature, where each custom combination is its own market with a dedicated order book, and prices are generated through a request-for-quote system. Other participants can respond to the quote request, and the Combo only fills if a market participant provides an acceptable price.
The platform’s market suggestions system also lets users propose new contracts for its markets team to review, although there is no guarantee that a suggestion will be listed.
Beyond sports, Kalshi offers predictions across elections, politics, culture, crypto, commodities, climate, economics, mentions, finance, and tech & science. Some of those can be found at DK Predictions as well, but others are limited to Kalshi, like mentions, which allow you to predict which names and phrases will be dropped during politicians' speeches and earnings calls.
With Kalshi Klear now handling clearing, the company says it can react to breaking news faster and settle markets more quickly. Eligible customers can also earn variable interest on holdings, since Kalshi currently advertises a 3.25% APY rate subject to change and eligibility requirements.

DraftKings Predictions Market Variety
DraftKings has expanded well beyond its initial sports-and-finance offer. The current lineup includes NFL, college football, MLB, NBA, WNBA, NHL, soccer, tennis, golf, motorsports, and sailing, alongside crypto, politics, financials, economics, culture, and climate.
Its politics section includes Congress, state governors, the US presidential election, and international politics, while financial markets list the Dow, Nasdaq, S&P 500, crude oil, gold, silver, natural gas, and currency exchange.
Other categories are a bit more limited compared to Kalshi. For instance, the time-framed movements of cryptocurrencies go only as far as weekly, whereas Kalshi also offers monthly, annual, and one-time options as well.
With climate, you can only predict whether 2026 will be the hottest year on record, while Kalshi offers temperature and rain predictions across various major cities.
The sports side is where DraftKings feels most developed. Football markets include game lines, touchdown scorers, passing, receiving, rushing, quarters and halves, while other sports have their own player- and game-specific contract types.
DraftKings also supports combos and allows users to add multiple predictions to a trade slip. It’s not something you won’t see at Kalshi, but DK Predictions holds up well in this area, too.

The fee structures are fundamentally different across the two platforms.
Kalshi relies on a variable exchange fee based on the contract price and whether you're taking or making liquidity, using the following formula:
Taker fee = 0.07 × P × (1 − P)
Maker fee = 0.0175 × P × (1 − P)
Meanwhile, DraftKings Predictions charges a simple $0.01 transaction fee for every event contract bought or sold, plus a separate exchange fee.
There’s no simple answer to which one is “cheaper” since it depends on how you trade and at which contract price.
To give you a clear comparison, let’s work through a few examples:
| Contract price | Kalshi taker fee (100 contracts) | Kalshi maker fee (100 contracts) | DraftKings fee (100 contracts) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0.25 | $1.32 | $0.33 | $1.00 + exchange fee |
| $0.50 | $1.75 | $0.44 | $1.00 + exchange fee |
| $0.90 | $0.63 | $0.16 | $1.00 + exchange fee |
The taker fee at Kalshi is highest around the 50¢ mark because that is where the P × (1 − P) portion of the formula peaks. The maker fee follows the same pattern but is substantially lower, as you’re getting “rewarded” for creating liquidity.
At DraftKings Predictions, the same 100 contracts cost $1 in transaction fees regardless of the price, although you also need to account for the separate exchange fee charged by the exchange offering that contract.
That means that DK’s flat transaction fee can be lower than Kalshi’s taker fee around the middle of the price range, but Kalshi’s maker fee is considerably lower in all three examples.
The Verdict: Which Kalshi vs. DraftKings Predictions Prediction Market Fits Your Strategy?
There’s no unified answer that applies equally to every user, so let’s break down which scenarios each of the two platforms excels in:
The definitive winner for the ultimate trading experience: Kalshi gives you more control through its order book and limit orders, while also having liquidity programs and a public API.
The definitive winner for sports-focused contracts: DraftKings has a deep sports presentation that doesn’t overshadow Kalshi’s, but its sports events are more front and center, which may suit DK’s existing audience.
The definitive winner for non-sports markets: Kalshi retains a strong focus on real-world event contracts across almost a dozen categories. DraftKings now also covers politics, economics, financials, crypto, culture, and climate, but those are fairly limited compared to what you may find at Kalshi.
The definitive winner for welcome bonuses: DraftKings currently has a more substantial introductory offer, with up to $150 in Predictions Dollars available after a $5 qualifying trade.
The definitive winner for banking flexibility: Kalshi offers more deposit and withdrawal options, including Cash App, wire transfers, and crypto, which are not available at DraftKings Predictions.
