Topics on this page

PredictIt is a prediction market focused entirely on political contracts, from elections to congressional races. It’s federally regulated through the CFTC, but not in the same way as most prediction markets. Namely, PredictIt operates through no-action relief granted by the CFTC, so it’s not a CFTC-registered exchange like Kalshi and similar apps.

The market is handled by PMRC, a nonprofit research group in the US, with Aristotle International supporting account checks, clearing, and day-to-day operations.

This PredictIt review walks you through the platform top to bottom, covering fees, interface, markets, banking, and customer support.

PredictIt Pros and Cons

Pros Deeper political coverage than other prediction markets
Pros Allows limit orders
Pros Full order book
Cons 10% fee on winning trades
Cons 5% withdrawal
Cons No sports, economic, climate, or culture contracts
Cons No native mobile app

PredictIt Bonuses and Incentives

PredictIt doesn’t offer a welcome bonus or a referral program. New traders get the same pricing as everyone else from the first trade, which stands in contrast to the best US prediction market bonuses you might find on other platforms.

WSN's Experts Opinion on the PredictIt Welcome Bonus

''No bonus stings less once you remember what PredictIt is: a non-profit research market, not a venture-backed app buying market share with signup credits. Kalshi and OG will hand you trade credit to get started; PredictIt won't. So price it in honestly. Just go in knowing you're paying full freight from your very first position, with no house money to cushion the early trades.''

PredictIt User Experience

PredictIt trades entirely through its desktop website. There's no native iOS or Android PredictIt app.

Desktop and Web

PredictIt splits into two halves. One side is a news hub, a running feed of political coverage with developments, analysis, and a podcast for traders who follow election chatter in audio form. The other side is the Markets area, where the trading happens, broken into five categories: Elections, President, Congress, State/Local, and World.

PredictIt Desktop and Web

Each category shows its market count at the top. Every market tile lists the contract price next to total shares traded, providing a quick read on how active a market is. A keyword search up top helps when you already know the candidate, race, or issue you're after.

PredictIt User Experience

The lobby filters cover 4 sorts. Trade Volume surfaces the busiest markets, Price Change flags the contracts moving most, New Arrivals lists recently added markets, and Expiring shows contracts close to settlement. A separate filter panel narrows by election type, party, body or office, and specific names like Trump or McConnell.

Open a market, and the activity chart loads first. It plots how trading has moved over 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days, so you can see where the price has been and which way traders have leaned before you take a position. Below the chart, each contract shows its price in dollars, along with a multiplier that shows the potential payout relative to what you're putting in. Knowing how these contract prices map to implied probabilities is essential for understanding prediction market odds on a deeper level.

PredictIt Markets

The Contracts tab holds the order book in plain view. Buy Yes and Sell Yes columns stack by price and quantity, showing where bids and asks build at each level and whether an order moves the price. The trade slip appears to the right, with Yes and No tabs at the top, Buy, Sell, and Limit Order options below, and a payout multiplier at the bottom.

In addition to the contracts, each market page includes a Discussion tab and a Rules tab. The first hosts a comment thread where traders argue over where the price should go, and the Rules section details exactly what has to happen for the market to settle. Read the Rules tab before placing a trade, as it lays out the resolution criteria and the end date so you don’t misread how a contract grades.

WSN's Experts Opinion on the PredictIt User Experience & Design

''PredictIt won't dazzle you on looks. The design looks a touch old-school next to something like OG, and you'll notice it the moment you land on the site. But once you start trading, the rough edges fade. Every screen points back to political markets, the order book is visible, and there are a ton of filters to help you find a contract. For political trading specifically, this is one of the easiest platforms to read at a glance, app or no app.''

PredictIt Markets Available

PredictIt offers only political contracts, organized into five categories: Elections, President, Congress, State/Local, and World. There’s no sports, no economics, no climate, no pop culture. Every contract ties back to an election, a nomination, party control, legislation, or another government outcome. Its CFTC no-action framework restricts the platform to political events, so this narrow focus is built into how PredictIt is allowed to operate.

If you are weighing prediction markets vs. sportsbooks, keep in mind that Elections are the broadest category on this platform. It groups the biggest races and narratives in one place, making it easy to track popular US prediction market events without bouncing around. Recent contracts here span primary nominees through general-election matchups across the current cycle.

PredictIt Markets Available

The Congress category drills down the furthest, with 110+ markets on offer. You’ll find trading options for House and Senate control, individual Senate races, nominee battles, and seat counts tied to the balance of power on Capitol Hill. Active contracts include the Louisiana Republican Senate nominee, the NY-07 and NY-13 Democratic nominee races, and the question of who controls the Senate after 2026.

The President covers the White House and everything orbiting it, presidential nominees, general-election contracts, approval-related questions, and departure or impeachment angles. State/Local drops further down the ballot to governor races, redistricting questions, state court elections, and ballot measures that rarely make national headlines. The world handles politics outside the US, including foreign elections, leadership questions like who replaces a sitting prime minister, and country-level government developments such as a nation leaving NATO.

Every contract is priced between $0.01 and $0.99, and position size is capped at $3,500 per contract under PredictIt's CFTC agreement, tied to the federal individual campaign contribution limit. The 2025 amendment removed the old 5,000-trader-per-contract cap, which had distorted pricing in popular markets by locking out new traders.

WSN's Experts Opinion on the PredictIt Betting Markets

''If political markets had a hometown bar, PredictIt would be it. Nobody else lets you trade a Senate primary nominee or a redistricting question with this much granularity, and it's genuinely fun if Capitol Hill is your thing. But the second you want to rotate into anything else, a Fed decision, an Oscar, a Bitcoin price, you're out of luck. Liquidity is healthy on the races everyone's watching, then thins out once you drift toward the smaller state-level stuff. Take it for what it does best, and you won't walk away disappointed.''

PredictIt Banking & Fees

There are two fees to keep an eye on with PredictIt: one on winning trades and one on withdrawals. Neither is cheap by industry standards, and together they decide how much of your profit actually makes it home.

PredictIt Trading Fees

PredictIt operates as a peer-to-peer market, so you trade against other users rather than the platform. The site makes a 10% cut from the profit on every winning trade.

Fee TypeCostNotes
Trading Fee10% on net profitCharged only on winning trades, whether you hold to settlement or sell early
Settlement FeeNoneNo separate fee when a contract resolves
Withdrawal Fee5% per withdrawalApplied to every cash-out, covered in Deposits & Withdrawals below

PredictIt Deposits & Withdrawals

PredictIt offers 3 deposit and 2 withdrawal methods

MethodTypeSpeedFees
Credit / Debit CardDepositInstant (30-day hold before withdrawal)Free
ACH Bank TransferDepositInstant (30-day hold before withdrawal)Free
PayNearMeDepositInstant (30-day hold before withdrawal)Free
ACH Bank TransferWithdrawal3 to 7 business days5%
Mailed CheckWithdrawalAround 20 days5%

PredictIt accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express, with a $10 minimum deposit. Every deposit is subject to a 30-day hold before it becomes eligible for withdrawal—an anti-money-laundering measure built into the platform's framework. On the way out, ACH transfers arrive in 3 to 7 business days, and mailed checks take around 20 days, with a 5% fee applied on both methods.

For our test, we deposited $1,000 using a debit card. The funds showed up instantly, and we started trading right away. The 30-day hold meant our first withdrawal had to wait out that window, but once it cleared, the ACH cash-out moved faster than the stated 3-to-7-day range, hitting our bank in 2 days and 4 hours.

WSN's Experts Opinion on the PredictIt Fees & Withdrawals

''Let's not sugarcoat it, the fee load here is rough. You hand over 10% on every winning trade, then another 5% just to get your money out, and together they wear down your returns in short order. The 30-day deposit hold adds friction of its own if you like keeping money in motion. Withdrawal speeds are perfectly fine once you clear that hold, but the price of doing business is the single biggest knock on this platform.''

PredictIt Customer Support

PredictIt customer support options include:

  • Contact Us form

  • Help and Support page

  • FAQ section

  • Video tutorials

Everything routes through three self-service channels, but you can also reach out via the on-site Contact Us form by entering your email, subject, and message. The Help and Support page walks you through what PredictIt is, how to trade, and the FAQ, while a set of onboarding video tutorials covers buying and selling shares, navigating the site, and opening an account.

WSN's Experts Opinion on the PredictIt Customer Support

''The support model here is built around figuring things out on your own first. PredictIt's video tutorials and FAQ sections do a solid job for newcomers, and most pre-trade questions are already covered on the Help page. The weak spot is response time. With no live chat for quick questions and no phone line when something breaks mid-session, every issue routes through email and a wait. For a platform this focused, the self-service depth makes up for most of it, but traders used to instant chat elsewhere will miss it.''

PredictIt Final Verdict

While people often ask, "Are prediction markets legal in the US?", PredictIt operates safely under federal oversight, keeping your funds in segregated clearing accounts under Aristotle. The legitimacy question is settled. What's left is whether the political-only focus and the fee load work for how you want to trade.

On the upside, no other best prediction market apps come close to PredictIt for political coverage. Senate nominee races, gubernatorial contests, redistricting questions, foreign elections, it’s all there. Liquidity holds up on the high-profile races, so you can put real size to work on the markets people trade most. The $3,500 per-contract cap keeps the biggest whales from steamrolling pricing, which helps everyday traders read each market.

The cost is the part you can't look past. There's a 10% charge on the profit from winning trades and a 5% charge on withdrawals, so the more you make, the more PredictIt keeps. You won't find an app, a welcome bonus, or a single market outside politics. The 30-day deposit hold piles on a little more friction for anyone who likes their money liquid.

So who's it for? If you live and breathe politics and you want the widest political market list with real trading tools, PredictIt earns a spot in your rotation; just price the fees into every position. If you want variety, an app, or cheaper trading, Kalshi and Polymarket cover more ground for less.

Responsible Risk Management

PredictIt doesn't surface dedicated deposit-limit or loss-limit tools the way most trading apps might, since it's structured as a research market rather than a retail product. That puts the burden of executing smart prediction market strategies and risk management on you from the start.

The $3,500 per-contract cap and the 30-day deposit hold add some natural guardrails, but they're not a substitute for setting your own limits. Each position carries full downside risk, and a contract that settles against you can lose 100% of the amount committed to that position.

Decide what you're willing to allocate before you fund the account, and treat that number as a ceiling, not a target. WSN is committed to safer trading practices across every platform we cover.

How We Rate Prediction Markets

Our prediction market ratings are based on hands-on testing. We deposit $1,000 into every platform we test and trade with it, taking the wins and losses as they come.

For our PredictIt review, the full grand went into political contracts across the Congress, President, and State/Local markets, and we traded them over two weeks. A primary cycle was in full swing, so we got to watch prices swing and liquidity shift as order flow ran hot. Along the way, we cashed out to clock withdrawal speeds and measured exactly how much the 30-day deposit hold tacked onto that first payout.

You can find the complete scoring framework on our rating criteria page.

Why You Should Trust Us

Prediction markets are a natural extension of the work that WSN has done for years. Our team tracks how these platforms are priced, regulated, and structured. Through our guide on prediction markets, we help traders understand what separates a peer-to-peer market like PredictIt from a registered exchange, why a fee charged on profit behaves differently from one charged per contract, and how a visible order book changes the way you approach a position.

We also keep our reviews current. Regulation in this space shifts fast, and a platform's terms can change overnight, so we revisit the legal status, operator, and fee details rather than letting them go stale. Above all, our editorial stays independent. We may earn a commission when you sign up through our links, but that never shapes a rating or softens a criticism. The score reflects the platform, not the partnership.
