The Indiana Fever have been on fire since returning from the break, with wins in six of seven games. They'll try to make it seven wins in their last eight when they take on the visiting Los Angeles Sparks, a team that's lost seven of eight since the break, tonight.
For the first time this season, according to the latest Sparks vs. Fever odds at FanDuel, Indiana is a double-digit favorite to win. But the Sparks defeated the Fever in Indianapolis earlier in the season. If Indiana takes them lightly, it could happen again.
Indiana passed a big test recently with a win over the Connecticut Sun. It's one thing to defeat the Wings, Sky, and Dream. But it is something else entirely to defeat one of the best teams in the league. But the Fever met the challenge head-on and walked away with an 84-80 win.
They'll now face an even bigger test this week - themselves. They've played down to the competition in a couple of recent losses (vs. Dallas and Washington). While the Sparks have been struggling, there is talent on the roster. If the Fever let them linger, they could find a way to win.

Indiana and Los Angeles have already played twice this year (May 24 and 28), with each winning on the other's home court. The Fever were the favorite in both games but went 1-1 ATS; the OVER was also 1-1. Los Angeles has owned the all-time series vs. the Fever with 34 wins in 48 games.
The Sparks have won seven of the last ten meetings, and the OVER was 5-5.
7-25 SU, 15-15-1 ATS
OVER: 14-17
On the Road: 2-14 SU, 9-7 ATS
A season that began with so much promise after the addition of Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson in the first round of the draft has gone nowhere fast. Losing Brink to a season-ending injury early one stung, but the team was only 4-10 in games that she finished anyway.
On a few rare occasions, they have shown just how good they can play with wins over New York (94-88, Aug. 28) and Las Vegas (98-93 OT, July 5; 96-92, June 9). But they have been unable to replicate what worked in those games throughout the season.
Since the break, the Sparks have averaged just 78.3 points per game; only the Chicago Sky are averaging less (75.4 ppg). Things have not been better on the defensive end as they've allowed 88.8 ppg, giving them the worst point differential (-10.5).
Dearica Hamby is the team's leading scorer with 17.5 ppg this season. However, she's been off her game since play resumed and is averaging 12.4 per game. Rickea Jackson has stepped up in the interim and has led the team in scoring since the break with 16.1 ppg.

With the exception of the loss to the Minnesota Lynx, everything has been coming up roses for the Fever since play resumed after the break. They've got the No.1 offense in the league (91.1 points per game). They've hit over 40% of their three-pointers (best in the league). Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark are No. 2 and 3 in the league in scoring.
Oh - and their record is above .500 for the first time this season.
However, it's a good thing they are playing so well on the offensive end of the court. They still can't play adequate defense and have ranked tenth in points allowed since the break, 83.9 per game.
In the loss to the Sparks on May 28, the issue that led to the defeat was Indiana's slow start; the Sparks outscored them 24-15 in the first period. Takeaway was the first, and the Fever had the higher score, 67-64. While Indiana is still getting outscored in the first period (3-4), they've been 5-2 in the final period.
A fast start against the Sparks could be what the Fever needs, but they'll come out on top as long as they continue to finish strong.

Indiana will win this game. They are clicking on all cylinders and playing too well to lose to a team struggling like Los Angeles. However, this is the first time the Fever has been a double-digit favorite. The Sparks are 7-2 ATS when double-digit road dogs.
If you can be patient, wait and see if the line moves before the game. If it falls below ten, take the Fever and give the points. Should it remain where it is, we would still lean towards the same bet but would be a little nervous.
The OVER is worth some thought; the Fever should have a good night, but whether the Sparks do is up in the air (even vs. Indiana's lax defense).
