FanDuel Lands Big Win With Amazon Prime Sports NBA Deal
FanDuel Sportsbook didn’t wait long to one-up its top rival.
Just a few days after DraftKings announced a new partnership with NBC, FanDuel inked a new deal with Amazon Prime Sports. The new partnership will enable Amazon Prime customers to link their FanDuel accounts, allowing them to track their wagers in real-time during NBA games. FanDuel will also provide real-time odds during games using the OddsView overlay.
The FanDuel deal represents a massive victory for the Flutter-owned sportsbook. While it currently only covers the NBA, it will soon expand to include the WNBA.
“Since Day 1, we’ve challenged ourselves to invent features that heighten, customize, and add storytelling elements for fans within the live sports experience,” said the head of Prime Video US, Jay Marine, in a press release. “As we tip off this long-term relationship with the NBA, we’re excited to launch a best-in-class bet tracking experience with FanDuel, as well as a wide-ranging suite of broadcast innovations to enhance Prime Video’s comprehensive NBA offerings.”
Amazon has been ramping up its sports coverage, adding NHL, MLB, and NBA games while continuing to own the rights for the NFL’s Thursday Night Football. They have outdone their streaming rivals when it comes to sports, and their deal with FanDuel will only widen that gap.
Will New Deals Bring Problem Gambling Risks
While concerns persist over sportsbooks further integrating with professional sports, FanDuel’s new deal adds more guardrails than the one inked by DraftKings.
DraftKings' deal with NBC means more advertising during games. Sportsbook advertising rules are under fire in states across the US, with many pro sports teams and leagues forming partnerships with sports betting operators. This deal involves national-level advertising, with viewers unable to avoid or censor it.
FanDuel’s partnership with Amazon will only be available to customers looking to turn the new betting features on. Those who are vulnerable to gambling addiction can avoid having that added to their viewing experience, taking away a temptation that could lead to devastating consequences.
