DraftKings Sportsbook is guaranteeing $250 in prizes to all first-time bettors that wager at least $5 on North Carolina vs. Wagner in the NCAA Tournament.

The special deal comes just over a week after North Carolina launched online sports betting and on the first day of the official March Madness bracket. UNC is one of the top contenders in the tournament, but Wagner will be confident after winning a First Four matchup against Howard.

Anyone who wants to redeem the $250 bonus just needs to follow a few basic steps. But don’t worry, we laid those out, along with everything there is to know about North Carolina sports betting, below.

How to Unlock Prizes for North Carolina Sports Betting

The Tar Heel State was receptive to sports betting and legalized retail wagering in 2019. However, it took the state until 2023 to legalize and until March 11, 2024, to launch online sports betting, finally allowing bettors to submit their favorite slips from the comfort of their homes or on the go.

The state is now one of 38 that will be present for March Madness betting, a period that is expected to produce $2.72 billion in bets at legal sportsbooks. DraftKings’ $250 bonus guarantees a special start to that period.

All new DraftKings users in North Carolina can claim the offer by following these steps:

  1. Visit the DraftKings sportsbook and click “Sign Up”

  2. Enter your personal information into the appropriate fields

  3. Place a bet worth at least $5 on North Carolina vs. Wagner

  4. Win $250 in bonus bets instantly

North Carolina DraftKings $250 Bonus: Tar Heels Start their Bracket with UNC vs. Wagner

See our full betting preview for North Carolina vs Wagner.

The last time North Carolina was seen on the court, it lost the ACC Tournament championship to a lower NC State, 84-76. Despite the disappointing loss, the Tar Heels went 27-7 and secured one of four No. 1 seeds in the tournament.

Despite their seed, UNC is second in odds to win the West region (+260) at DraftKings. No. 2 Arizona is first at +200. They’re also fifth in odds to win the national championship (+1300), behind UConn (+340), Houston (+550), Purdue (+700), and Arizona (+1200).

The Heels are a veteran team led by senior guard and ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis (21.4 points, 40.6% 3PT) and fifth-year center Armando Bacot (14.1 points, 10.2 rebounds). They are one of the best rebounding teams in America and score more than 81 points per game while also playing solid defense.

Coach Hubert Davis’ team did not appear in a postseason tournament aside from the ACC Tournament a year ago but were runner-ups in the national championship the year before.

Wagner went 17-15 and only finished sixth in the NEC but won its postseason tournament to qualify for the First Four. They then beat Howard 71-68 (a scoreline that flattered the losers more than the winners) behind 21 points and seven assists from leading scorer Melvin Council Jr.

The Seahawks are a defensive-minded team that will struggle to keep pace with a UNC squad that is far more talented than any team they faced all year.

The Tar Heels are 25-point favorites and -5000 on the moneyline.
