We’ve got a golden rule here at WSN, which is at the cornerstone of every review we write: we actually sign up and test out the product for ourselves. With sports betting promotions, that means opting into every single offer that we cover, to see how it works from the perspective of a regular user. We follow the whole process from start to finish: signing up, claiming the bonus, depositing some money, following the terms and conditions and making a withdrawal. If we think something isn’t up to scratch, we’ll tell you.
Below are the five key factors we consider when it comes to North Carolina sportsbook promos:
Accessibility - We like bonuses that are simple to understand, open to everyone and don’t have a convoluted opt-in process. At the end of the day, promotions are supposed to be fun. We don’t want a load of paperwork.
Value - The overall dollar value of the bonus is a big factor of course, but it’s not the only story. We also take into consideration how things like wagering requirements affect the real value of a bonus. We compare the value provided from promos at different sportsbooks around the state.
Type of Bonus - Every bonus is different and the best one for you depends on how you intend to bet. We make sure to cover what type of player is likely to benefit the most from each bonus, from beginners to high rollers.
Wagering Requirements - This refers to how many times you need to gamble with some bonus money before you’re able to withdraw the winnings. It’s a big factor with online sports betting bonuses and we’re going to cover it in more detail further down this page.
Other Terms and Conditions - We go through the whole process with every bonus, meaning we uncover any tricky terms and conditions along the way. That goes for things like qualifying deposits or bets, restricted markets and time limits. Check out our full section on terms and conditions below for more information.
After we publish something, our team of editors spends five hours each month checking to make sure the information is still correct and current.
In this section, we’ll cover our favorite sportsbooks that went live in North Carolina. Feel free to check out our full reviews of each of the sites below, especially since you can start signing up for them anytime you want. Also, keep an eye on the current welcome offer available in North Carolina.
Best for: Features
DraftKings is just behind FanDuel in terms of total market share, and it’s another top class sportsbook. If you want a site that is strong right across the board with lots of features, go for DraftKings.
In North Carolina, the DraftKings welcome offer doesn’t require a promo code and gives new users $200 in bonus bets. Here’s how it works.
All you need to do is sign up for a new DraftKings account, make a $5 deposit, and make a $5 bet. You will then receive 10 separate $25 bonus bets, giving you $200 worth of bonus bets. DraftKings is one of the few sportsbooks that only requires a $5 deposit and bet to trigger the bonus
The bonus bet will hit your account within 24 hours of your first bet settling and you need to use it within seven days before it expires. You can’t withdraw your bonus bet, but you just need to bet it in full once before you can withdraw the winnings. If your bonus bet wins, you don’t get the value of the stake returned to you.
DraftKings has lots of on-running promos too, which get updated all the time based on what’s happening in the sporting calendar, including SGP bonuses and odds boosts. I’m also a big fan of the Profit Boost tokens you can get, which allow you to actually choose which bet you want to receive the boost.

💰 North Carolina Promo Offer: Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets Instantly + Get a No Sweat NBA SGP Every Day of NBA Playoffs
Best for: Mobile App
FanDuel is the number one US sportsbook in terms of market share, and it’s not hard to see why. If you’re looking for the most popular sportsbook in the US, join FanDuel.
FanDuel has an excellent welcome offer for new customers in North Carolina with no promo required. Folks in the Tar Heel State can get $200 in bonus bets after signing up. Here’s how it works:
You need to sign up for an account, make an initial deposit of at least $10, and place your first qualifying bet of at least $5 on any sport. Whether that bet wins or loses, FanDuel will credit your account with $200 in bonus bets within 72 hours. After that, you’ve got seven days to use them.
The best part is the flexibility of bonus bets at FanDuel, which can be used in whatever denominations or bet sizes you like. If you want to use some of your bonus bet supply, you can just select the option that appears in the betslip, and your stake will be subtracted from your remaining balance.
FanDuel has knocked it out of the park with on-running promotions too. There is a Refer a Friend promo where you and a friend can both earn $50 in bonus bets, provided they sign up and place a first bet of $10 or more. You can refer up to five friends per month, which is worth a potential total of $200 in bonuses. There are other offers that are constantly being updated depending on what sports and events are taking place that week, like parlay boosts in the NBA for instance.

💰 North Carolina Promo Offer: Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets
Best for: Betting Markets
BetMGM is the online sportsbook of MGM Resorts, one of the biggest names in US gambling. If you want a huge range of sports and betting markets, along with discounts at MGM properties, it’s a perfect choice.
New Players in NC can claim a welcome bonus of up to $1,500 in Bonus Bets when they sign up with the code WSNMGM. It’s a great offer, and this is how it works.
After you’ve signed up with the promo code, you need to make your first deposit of $10 or more and place your first bet of $5 or more. If your first bet loses, you'll get your wagered stakes back in the form of bonus bets, up to $1,500. But if you win, you won't get any bonus bets, just your winnings. Technically, this offer is a safety net for your first bet, allowing you to go big on your first try.
After your bet is settled, you'll receive your bonus bets in your account. If you bet over $50, your bonus bets will come in five parts, but if you bet less, you'll get it all at once. You've got seven days to use all your bonus bets after they arrive and if you win with a bonus bet, you get to keep the winnings only and not the value of the stake.
BetMGM also has an excellent loyalty program, which combines the online sportsbook with in-person benefits and offers at MGM resorts around the country. You can get hotel discounts, restaurant vouchers, free event tickets, and more. There is also a Refer a Friend offer and profit boost tokens that can be used to enhance the odds on selected sports, which get updated every week or so.
The range of betting markets at BetMGM is easily among the best I've seen at any US sportsbook, perfect if you want to find the most detailed props on a wide range of sports.

💰 North Carolina Promo Offer: $100 in Bonus Bets
Best for: Loyalty Program
Caesars sportsbook is the online betting platform of Caesars resorts, one of the biggest names in luxury gambling resorts in the US. If you like the sound of in-person benefits at hotels and casinos around the countries, Caesars Sportsbook is the perfect option.
My favorite thing about Caesars is the loyalty program, Caesars Rewards. Like the similar program at BetMGM, it integrates the sportsbooks with real life Caesars resorts, so that any time you spend money on any Caesars product - online or offline - you earn reward points. Your points can be cashed in for sportsbook bonuses and promos or used for discounts and other benefits at Caesars hotels and casinos. As you earn more points, you climb through the ranks of the program, unlocking more benefits as you go.
There is no welcome offer to claim in North Carolina at Caesars at the moment. But check back in March, Caesars should have an attractive launch offer for NC players.

💰 North Carolina Promo Offer: Coming soon
You are free to claim a welcome bonus at any sportsbook operating in North Carolina. In some cases, even if you signed up for a pre-registration bonus, you’ll still be eligible for the post-launch welcome offer.
The process of claiming a North Carolina sportsbook bonus is similar to doing so in any other state where mobile betting is legal.
Check out our generic beginners guide for claiming a sportsbook bonus below:
Choose a legal sportsbook. This may seem like an obvious start, but you’d be surprised at how many people, intentionally or otherwise, end up choosing an unregulated offshore sportsbook. This is a serious risk, and we strongly recommend sticking to the legal North Carolina options - like our recommended sportsbooks featured on this page.
Create an account. Whichever sportsbook you choose, the sign up process is pretty similar. You need to provide basic personal details like your name, date of birth, address, and phone number. You may also have to send some additional documents to verify your identity, like a copy of your passport. Every legal sportsbook in NC is required to verify the identity of its customers, and this is part of that process.
Opt-into your bonus. This step can vary a little depending on the sportsbook and the offer. You may need to type in a bonus code when you sign up to claim your promotions, or you may simply need to make a qualifying deposit and first bet. Check out our North Carolina sports betting promo codes in the table above and remember to follow the instructions carefully.
Make a deposit. NC sportsbooks allow you to top up your account using a wide range of different payment methods, including bank cards, transfers, e-wallet like PayPal, Apple Pay and more.
Place your bets. With your bonus activated and your account topped up, you can browse the different markets and place your first bets.
Withdraw your winnings. If you win, remember that there may be additional conditions attached before you can withdraw any winnings from a sportsbook bonus. We’ve got more details on that in a later section.
Now that sports betting in North Carolina is live, you can expect to find a full range of bonuses and promotions available at the top sportsbooks. Just keep in mind that each sportsbook is a little different when it comes to the bonuses they offer.
Here are the most common offers you can expect to find:
With this bonus, the sportsbook matches your first deposit with bonus bets or site credit, up to a certain limit. The more you decide to deposit up front, the more valuable this bonus becomes. This makes it better for intermediate bettors who are comfortable spending a chunk of their own money up front.
In this case, if your first bet loses, the sportsbook will refund the stake with bonus bets or site credit, again up to a certain limit. It’s like a safety net, a way to let new users try one bet with some of the risk reduced. Just like a deposit bonus, the more you spend, the more you stand to get refunded.
This is any type of bonus or promotion the sportsbook gives out that doesn’t require you to spend any money. Instead, you just need to create an account to qualify. No deposit bonuses tend to be fairly modest - like a single $10 bonus bet for instance - and always have additional conditions before you can withdraw your winnings.
A bonus bet is simply a voucher or token to place a bet. When you win with a bonus bet, you get to keep the winnings only. The value of the stake is not returned to you, as it is with a regular bet. Bonus Bet welcome bonuses, like those at FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM, are very common. Normally, you’ll need to sign up, make a deposit, and place your first bet in order to trigger some bonus bets.
Bonus bets are a common type of on-running promo too. A sportsbook might hand out a single bonus bet per week for certain sports or refund some of your unsuccessful bets with bonus bets.
This is another very common on-running promotion at many sportsbooks. With this promo, certain bets are chosen to receive special enhanced odds, so you can win more money than normal for the same amount of risk. Sportsbooks choose betting markets that are attracting a lot of media attention to receive boosts, to spark public interest. Sometimes, like with DraftKings’ profit boost tokens for instance, customers can choose which bets they want to receive the boost.
These are special promos designed for parlays or Same Game Parlays. In one variation, the more legs you add to the selection, the greater the odds boost you receive for the overall bet. Sometimes a sportsbook will refund your stake if just one of your legs fails. They are designed to encourage people to build parlays.
Reload bonuses are any kind of bonus existing members get for making a deposit into their account, like a deposit bonus applied to future deposits. They are designed to keep customers happy, especially those who might have stopped engaging with the platform.
Many sportsbooks hand out real prizes like branded merch, electronic goods or tickets to live events. You may have to opt-into a draw, with only a few tickets handed out. In the case of loyalty programs, like those at BetMGM and Caesars, you can get discounts and benefits are luxury hotels and casinos
With these promos, both you and a friend can benefit if you get them to sign up using your exclusive link or code. Normally, they need to deposit some money and place their first bet to unlock some bonus bets for both of you. It’s an easy way to pick up some extra value.
Terms and conditions come with every single sports betting bonus, and can have a massive impact on their overall value and the user experience. The golden rule is to never claim a bonus without first understanding the small print. Unfortunately, it’s standard procedure for sportsbooks to overpromote the fun and valuable parts of the bonus, while the knotty stuff is left in the small print.
Here are some of the main things you need to look out for:
Wagering Requirements: When you receive a sports betting bonus, you can never simply withdraw it in cash without first using it to bet. Wagering requirements simply tell us how many times a bonus needs to be gambled before you can withdraw any of the winnings. It prevents people signing up and claiming a bonus without ever actually betting on the platform. The good news is that with most sportsbooks, bonus bets just need to be gambled once (1x wagering requirements) and you can keep the winnings in cash. Online casino promos tend to have much higher wagering requirements, like 30x or 40x.
Minimum Deposit / Qualifying Deposit: This tells us how much money you need to deposit in order to trigger a bonus. If you don’t deposit enough, you’ll miss out on your promo.
Qualifying Bet: This tells us what kind of bet you need to place in order to trigger a bonus. It normally needs to be a certain size and potentially at certain odds. For instance, a qualifying bet could be $10 at odds of -300 or more
Minimum Odds: Some bonus bets and other promos can only be used on bets with certain sized odds, often around -300 or more. This is to prevent people using bonus bets on extremely likely outcomes, so that they can just keep the winnings.
Maximum Payout: Sometimes there is a cap on the total amount you can win from a bonus.
Maximum Bet: Similarly, there could be a maximum allowable bet, particularly for Odds Boosts.
Expiration Date / Time Limits: All bonuses expire if you don’t use them within the allotted time frame. With bonus bets, you might have a week or 14 days to use them before they disappear.
Combining Bonuses: This is normally not allowed. For instance, you can’t use a bonus bet and profit boost token together.
The NFL is the most popular sport in the US, and attracts the most action at US sportsbooks. In fact, lots of new sportsbooks plan their launch date around key dates in the NFL calendar for this reason, like Week 1 or the Super Bowl. You’ll find tons of NFL promotions for the Carolina Panthers and more at pretty much all sportsbooks from September through to February. The Super Bowl is normally the most bet-on sporting event of the year, and you’ll always find special promo for the Big Game.
For more info see also what are the best sites to bet on the NFL.
The NBA is just behind the NFL in terms of popularity and generates lots of bonuses and promotions throughout the season. FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM are all known for their NBA promos, including odds boosts and parlay bonuses. The Charlotte Hornets are the great NBA hope in North Carolina, but the team formerly majority-owned by Michael Jordan are yet to get their hands on any silverware. Check out our NBA promotions page for more details.
The Carolina Hurricanes made history in North Carolina in 2006, when their Stanley Cup victory gave the state their first every major league championship. You can expect to find plenty of NHL and Hurricanes promos at NC sportsbooks. The Stanley Cup is a huge date in the betting calendar too, and normally comes with its own selection of bonuses and promos. Check out our NHL betting promotions page for more on the latest offer for the NHL.
North Carolina is not home to any MLB sides, but there are still lots of MLB promos at US sportsbooks from April through to September and into the World Series.
Yes. While you can only have one account per person at each sportsbook, you’re free to sign up to multiple sites and claim multiple bonuses if you want. Having accounts at multiple sportsbooks is also useful for line shopping, which is a simple but very effective strategy to boost your profits.
That said, we don’t recommend creating multiple accounts for everyone. It’s stressful and can make it tricky to manage your bankroll and not overspend. Plus while bonuses are fun, they aren’t some kind of cheat code you need to go chasing at all costs.
If you want to sign up for multiple sites, make sure you’re doing so as part of a balanced and healthy relationship with gambling.
North Carolina has taken its time with legalizing online sports betting, and the new industry comes with a lot of protection for NC bettors. If you feel like your betting habits are becoming a problem, or you think someone you know could use some support, you can contact the following organizations:
You can contact the free and confidential North Carolina Problem Gambling helpline at 1-877-718-5543, or by texting “morethanagamenc" to 53342.
The North Carolina Lottery Commission has a Responsible Gambling section, with lots of state-specific information and advice. You can find details on the state self exclusion programme there too.
Both the National Council on Problem Gambling and Gamblers Anonymous offer lots of support to anyone struggling in North Carolina and around the country.
The online gambling industry officially went live at noon EST on March 11, 2024, with a host of sportsbooks launching on that day. With all the major US players being present North Carolina sports betting promos and bonuses are really top of the line, if not slightly better then what is on offer in the rest of the US. Check out the list of our favorite sites above to get a sense of the sports betting promos in store for NC betting fans.
