The Charlotte Hornets have not had the kind of season that many fans expected, thanks primarily to significant injuries. LaMelo Ball has played in just 22 games, and the team traded away Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, and PJ Washington, three of the Hornets’ top-six scorers. The result has been a brutal second half of the season for Charlotte, posting a 9-25 record since the New Year.
Things have not been much better for Memphis this season. After waiting 25 games for Ja Morant to return from suspension, the superstar suffered a season-ending injury soon after. On top of the loss of Morant, the team has also dealt with long-term injuries to Desmond Bane (28 games missed) and Marcus Smart (45 games missed). Now, Jaren Jackson Jr is dealing with lingering issues that are causing him to miss games. That's a big problem for a team with only four players on their roster who have played in 50+ games this season.
Both of these teams are bad, but the Grizzlies are slightly better. Given all the injuries, especially with Jackson’s status up in the air, the game is too close to call. Given how many scorers both teams are missing, we confidently bet on the under.
