As of last Monday, residents in North Carolina have had access to legal mobile sports betting and the ability to wager on their favorite in-state teams during the ACC Conference tournament. Depending on who you root for, you have been either ecstatic or heartbroken for how the tournament has gone so far with North Carolina and North Carolina State advancing while Duke and Wake Forest suffered losses.

For those who have not signed up yet and live within the state borders of North Carolina, sportsbooks are running new user sign-up promotions in order to give their users a head start. DraftKings Sportsbook is one of the sportsbooks offering a sign-up promotion, giving new users $250 in bonus bets for those who create an account and wager a minimum of $5 with their first wager after signup.

No promo code is required, it’s as simple as signing up and wagering a minimum of $5 on your first bet. After making the wager, DraftKings will reward you $250 in bonus bets in the form of 10 x $25 bonus bets. That allows the users to either stack them all on one bet or spread them out across multiple markets. Bonus bets must be used and can not be withdrawn. For more info read our in-depth review of the DraftKings Sportsbook.

The previously mentioned promotion is for North Carolina users only, yet others can rest assured that DraftKings has a promotion for those who reside in other legal sports betting states. For those looking to sign up before March Madness and live outside of North Carolina, DraftKings is giving new users $150 in bonus bets after signing up and wagering a minimum of $5 on their first wager. That wager can be geared towards the ACC semifinals when Pittsburgh looks to cement their spot in the tournament against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Pittsburgh vs. North Carolina Preview and Pick

In order for Pittsburgh to get off the bubble ahead of selection Sunday, they must go on a run in the ACC conference tournament. They got off on the right foot by beating Wake Forest in the quarterfinals, but now have a far tougher test against the North Carolina Tar Heels. UNC also comes into this contest with added motivation as they look to lock up one seed for March Madness.

Even with postseason hopes hanging by a thread, it’s tough to see Pittsburgh generating the upset as North Carolina is a step above in quality of opponent. The Tar Heels boast a top-5 defense per Adjusted Defensive Efficiency and have done a phenomenal job at limiting second-chance opportunities. That forces Pittsburgh to capitalize on their possessions while limiting UNC’s scoring pace, a feat that will be too tough to pull off.

The issue with backing North Carolina is that the spread opened a tad too high. Even with an elite defense, the Tar Heels still allow high-quality perimeter looks at an alarming rate. That opens the door for Pittsburgh to stay within the number as desperation creeps in and three-point attempts increase. Instead of backing UNC on the number, tie in their moneyline with Wisconsin in order to cut through the juice.
