  • Andy Cruz is an unbeaten fighter with a big future.

  • Hironori Mishiro is the more experienced underdog.

  • These men have a lowly eight KOs between them.

Big time boxing returns to the iconic Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York, USA, this weekend. The venue has hosted some of the most talented boxers and memorable nights in several popular divisions. We’re all set for another exciting evening of pugilism thanks to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Promotions.

Hitchins vs Kambosos Jr will live up to the hype, but there’s a bout on the undercard that caught our eye. Andy Cruz fights Hironori Mishiro over 12 rounds in the lightweight division, with both men eager to grab this opportunity with both hands. But who wins? World Sports Network’s boxing writer and former professional fighter, Frankie Monkhouse, offers his fight preview and predictions.

Andy Cruz vs Hironori Mishiro Odds Predictions

As the betting shows, traders strongly favor Andy Cruz this weekend and price him as if losing isn’t an option. Experienced followers of combat sports know that’s a dangerous approach, as anything can happen in this sport. Bouts can flip with a single punch, and we must remember Mishiro is here on merit. The Japanese fighter has 17 wins from 19 and plans to upset the odds.

Will you follow the betting and trust Cruz to get the job done? Perhaps you prefer to shoot for the bigger price and take your chances on the underdog with bite? Bet at the touch of a button using your smartphone before the opening bell, or gamble on the live betting odds available at bet365.

Here’s how a bet on the underdog might look.

$10 on Mishiro @ +800 (bet365).

With this bet, you need Mishiro to exit the ring victorious. It doesn’t matter if he wins with a first-round stoppage or goes the distance and impresses the scoring judges. As long as the Japanese warrior comes out on top, you’ll secure a profit. A £10 bet at the odds displayed pays $90. That’s an $80 profit and your $10 stake back.

If Cruz wins on Saturday night in Las Vegas or the bout ends in a draw, your bet is a loser, and the bookmaker keeps your stake. Picking the fight winner is the most straightforward way to gamble on boxing, giving you a one-in-three chance of beating the bookies.

Cruz Form and Figures

Andy Cruz has just five fights on his professional boxing record, but the talented Cuban-born boxer is tipped for big things. Cruz has wasted no time climbing the ranks and is already sitting at number two in his homeland behind Jadier Herrera, who has a dozen fights more experience. Cruz is as high as 24 on a global chart dominated by American duo Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. That’s incredible so early in his career, and he has an opportunity to drive himself into the top 20.

The 29-year-old orthodox boxer is currently living in Miami, Florida and enters on the back of a ten-round points decision over Omar Salcido Gamez in Las Vegas in January of this year. It was another positive result for a man intent on not wasting time in the game. His skills and natural talent allowed handlers to fast-track his career. He fought for and won the vacant IBF International lightweight title on debut, beating Juan Carlos Burgos in Detroit in ten rounds.

If winning a respected title in his first fight was impressive, Cruz had plenty more tricks up his sleeve. He defended his belt with a third-round stoppage win over Jovanni Straffon in his second bout, demonstrating his power. Andy has already completed 40 rounds as a professional and boasts stoppage wins over Straffon and Antonio Moran in Los Angeles. There’s still plenty more to come from Andy Cruz.

Mishiro Form and Figures

Hironori Mishiro travels from Yokohama to New York, boasting an impressive professional boxing record of 17 wins against one defeat and a draw. He’s ranked as the number one lightweight in Japan and 14th on the global charts. A win this weekend over such a respected opponent would show Mishiro is ready for bigger and better things.

The 30-year-old made his debut back in 2017 with a first-round stoppage win. That explosive start set the pace, and he stopped two of his first three opponents. He won several ranking titles at super featherweight, including the Japanese and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation straps. He’s the current Japanese lightweight champion, but can he win before an American audience?

We last saw Mishiro in action late last year when scoring a sixth-round stoppage win, defending his Japanese title against Hinata Maruta. He arrives in the US following two KO wins in his previous two bouts, meaning Team Cruz can’t and won’t take him lightly.

Cruz vs. Mishiro Betting Prediction

Cruz gives away plenty of experience here and fights an opponent ranked higher in the global charts. But he’s a man in great form who has already shown he belongs at an elite level of the professional game.

Cruz is fighting a respected champion from Japan, but one who spent much of his career at super featherweight. I expect him to put on a show and win Saturday’s bout inside the distance. A statement win will show that the Cuban is ready for a major title shot.
