Jaron Ennis takes on Xander Zayas in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds to decide the WBO world super welterweight title.
Unbeaten Puerto Rican Zayas ducks between the ropes as the defending champion, but faces a stern test in Ennis. The challenger from Pennsylvania is more experienced, also brings an unbeaten record, and a near 90% KO average.
Ennis fights Zayas in a contest scheduled for 12 rounds.

Does Ennis deserve to be the pre-fight betting favorite, despite entering as the challenger? I believe so, but feel Zayas has been written off a little too easily by the bookies.
Both men are unbeaten professional boxers, both have campaigned at elite level, and both believe they can win this contest. The example below gives a better understanding of the odds, and how they work.
Every $40 risked on Ennis pays just a $10 profit. Would you wager $400 to win $100 in such a high-profile contest in an often unpredictable sport?
Perhaps you’d prefer to back the champion. Every $10 gambled on Zayas pays a $35 profit if he keeps the belt. Would you prefer a $100 bet on the Puerto Rican to win $350. That value won’t go unnoticed.

Jaron Ennis is a 28-year-old orthodox boxer from Philadelphia. Nicknamed “Boots” he is ranked number one in the United States and also on the global super welterweight charts. A record of 35 wins from as many contests shows 31 victories scored inside the distance, resulting in a 88.57% knockout average. He’ll be out to prove just why he’s the top dog.
We last saw Jaron in action when stopping Uisma Lima inside a round at the Wells Fargo Centre last October. Ennis made a mockery of what had been billed as a potential banana skin, dealing with Lima at 1.58 of round one after sending his rival to the canvas twice in quick succession. The challenger has stopped each of his previous two opponents.
You can bet on Ennis to win the WBO title at the Barclays Centre or call the method of victory. A wager on him scoring a third KO/TKO win on the bounce makes sense, and I’m confident it’ll attract plenty of attention this weekend.

Xander Zayas may be the underdog for his latest defence, but the current champion won’t be in the mood to simply hand over his hard-earned title. The 23-year-old was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but relocated to Sunrise, Florida. He’s ranked number one in his homeland, but sits fourth in the world at super welterweight. Victory would change all that.
Zayas banked the vacant world title with a convincing points decision over Jorge Garcia Perez at Madison Square Garden, New York, last summer. He made his first defence with a split decision over Abass Baraou in San Juan, getting the nod on two of the three judges’ scorecards that evening. Xander has never lost, and carries a 56.52% KO average.
Fans of Zayas can back him to win the fight at attractive odds, but you may wish to aim a little higher. In the method of victory market, Zayas to successfully defend his belt on another points decision trades at +600 when betting on the BetMGM app.

I always tell my readers to forget about the odds when making their big-fight predictions.
What I mean by that is, if you fancy Zayas to win on Saturday, don’t let the fact he’s the underdog put you off. Traders don’t expect him to win, but once the bell sounds, they have no say in the outcome. I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off supporting the champion.
The betting value may be on the Puerto Rican, but my research tells me Ennis will win, and the most likely result is a points decision. Both men are unbeaten, but Ennis has contested a dozen more fights than his opponent, and is more experienced at this level.
I expect the challenger to use that knowledge to box his way to a comfortable lead on the scorecards in the early and middle rounds, before taking his foot off the gas and staying out of trouble. Back Ennis to win or aim higher and play the points win at a better price.
