PSG Want More Silverware Following Champions League Glory

Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League on May 31, but no one saw it coming earlier in the season.

PSG won only one of their first five matches in the league phase of Europe’s foremost competition. But roughly midway through the season, something clicked for PSG.

Once it did they were unstoppable, producing that scintillating showing in the final in a 5-0 victory over Inter.

Was that the peak of this team’s accomplishments, or is it only the start? We will not know the answer to that question for another 12 months, but the Club World Cup will give us an indication.

Atletico Madrid Will Need All Their Resolve to Get Something

Atletico Madrid ended the 2024/25 campaign empty-handed, losing on penalties to Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League and finishing third in La Liga.

It was about par for the course for Diego Simeone’s men, who have now turned their attention to the Club World Cup, a competition they would love to win.

Simeone himself has not sought to play down Atletico’s ambitions at the tournament. “For us, it's a bigger challenge, and we're going to go and win the Club World Cup; that's the goal,” he told Spanish publication La Nacion.

Hard to Look Past the Best Team in Europe at the Rose Bowl

Atletico Madrid have pulled off defensive masterclasses in big games before and we should not rule out the possibility of them doing so here.

The mid-afternoon heat in Pasadena may play into their hands. It should slow PSG down and give Atletico even more opportunities to disrupt the opposition’s rhythm.

Having said all that, PSG look unstoppable right now and they should find a way to come out on top here. An early goal would help immensely, forcing Atletico to come out of their shell and push up the pitch.

With that in mind, it is worth tipping the Parisians to be ahead at half-time and at full-time.
