Juventus Aiming to Beat Manchester City for Second Time

Juventus beat Manchester City in the Champions League in 2024/25 and they are now aiming to do so again at the Club World Cup. If they manage it, they will go through to the round of 16 as the group winners. In fact, a draw would be sufficient for Igor Tudor’s team to take top spot ahead of Pep Guardiola’s charges.

Juventus kicked off their campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Al Ain. They then beat Wydad AC 4-1 on matchday two, a result which means they have a slender advantage over Manchester City on goal differential heading into the final round of games. That means they would have the edge if the two teams finished level.

This is clearly the biggest test Juventus have faced at this tournament so far. They will have to be at their best to overcome City on Thursday.

Statement Win Would Help Manchester City’s Confidence

Manchester City have also been relatively untroubled in Group G up to now. Like Juventus they are safely through to the round of 16 with a game to spare, but there is an obvious incentive to securing top spot - it would almost certainly allow the group winner to avoid Real Madrid in the next round.

This is not an entirely new-look City side, but the alterations from 2024/25 are certainly noticeable. 

As well as the new signings, Rodri is back from injury and Erling Haaland has returned to full fitness. Needless to say, that makes City dangerous.

Manchester City Deserve to Be Favorites to Win on Thursday

Manchester City are the favorites to win this game and that makes perfect sense. They have stabilized since losing to Juventus earlier in the campaign, when they were at a really low ebb. They also have more individual quality at their disposal.

That is not to say Juventus will not cause City problems. They have been effective in attack over the last two matchdays and they will pose a threat here too.

All things considered, though, it is hard to look past City. Guardiola’s side are getting their mojo back and we fancy their chances of coming out on top in this one.
