Go for a Real Madrid lead at half-time. The Blancos should be ahead with 45 minutes on the clock.

Real Madrid Finding Groove as They Start to Eye the Trophy

Real Madrid could only manage a 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal on matchday one of the Club World Cup. It was a game which suggested Xabi Alonso would encounter a few teething problems in his first tournament as Madrid manager.

Since then, however, the Blancos have gone from strength to strength. After winning their group with seven points out of a possible nine, Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the round of 16. With Kylian Mbappe on his way back from illness, Madrid should only get stronger from here.

“The victory tastes very good,” Alonso said after the victory over Juve. “In this format in every game you go home or you continue, and we want to continue more - we are in the quarter-finals.”

Borussia Dortmund Rank Outsiders to Win the Club World Cup

Borussia Dortmund are right at the bottom of the betting charts to win the Club World Cup. That is not because they are the weakest team still involved in the competition, but because they are on the tough side of the draw. Even if BVB were to shock Real Madrid in the quarters, they would have to face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the semis.

Dortmund beat Monterrey 2-1 last time out, as a Serhou Guirassy brace saw them past the Mexican outfit. BVB ended the 2024/25 season strongly and they have carried that form into the Club World Cup.

Niko Kovac’s side are clear underdogs here, but they will not go down without a fight. Dortmund will have to be efficient in the final third if they are to cause an upset here, as well as keeping things reasonably tight at the back - although that is easier said than done.

Real Madrid Should Beat Borussia Dortmund in East Rutherford

It took Real Madrid until the 54th minute to make the breakthrough against Juventus. They will probably hit the front earlier than that on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund remain unconvincing defensively, and their backline is about to be tested much more than it has been in previous games.

We like Madrid’s chances of establishing a lead before half-time when they do battle with Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.
