Back Real Madrid to win to nil. Xabi Alonso’s team should pick up a first victory and they can keep a clean sheet too.

Room for Improvement as Real Madrid Fail to Beat Al Hilal

Before the Club World Cup got under way, Real Madrid were the favorites to lift the trophy with the best online sportsbooks. That is no longer the case. The Blancos are down to third in the betting market after an underwhelming display on matchday one, which saw Xabi Alonso’s side held to a 1-1 draw by Al Hilal.

Anyone who thought the European giants would steamroller their opponents from Saudi Arabia was mistaken. Madrid were second best in the first half, although they did improve after the break. They missed the chance to win the match when Fede Valverde failed to convert a penalty in second-half stoppage time.

“We don’t expect the team to work perfectly on the first day,” Alonso said. “But we weren’t frustrated. We need to do things differently, to correct a few details. We saw a good reaction in the second half. It has only been nine days and three training sessions.”

Pachuca up Against It Following Their Loss on Matchday One

Pachuca began Group H as the underdogs to reach the knockout phase and nothing has changed after their loss to Red Bull Salzburg. A 2-1 defeat in that encounter has left them in a difficult position ahead of this tussle with Real Madrid.

For the Mexican outfit, simply having a chance to face Madrid in a competitive encounter is cause for celebration. But of course they will want to give them a game on Sunday. Perhaps Al Hilal’s display against the Blancos offers reason for encouragement.

Make no mistake, though, Pachuca are huge outsiders as they prepare to take on the 15-time European champions.

Real Madrid Should Get Back on Track Against Pachuca

Alonso admitted that there were some teething problems for his players last time out, but Real Madrid should be better here.

Pachuca are not quite as strong a side as Al Hilal, so Madrid’s sheer talent advantage should be the decisive factor in determining the outcome.

Alonso can pick up his first win and his first clean sheet as Madrid boss - go for a win to nil in this game.
