Atlas FC vs Tigres UANL Prediction

Atlas FC vs Tigres UANL Predictions

In the entire Apertura 2022 season, Atlas FC were involved in four draws. They have already matched that tally after six games this Clausura season. After a winning start against Mazatlan FC, Atlas FC drew four successive games before losing against CF Monterrey 2-0 last week.

Tigres UANL have also matched their draw tally of last season after just seven games this time around. The Clausura season started with two stellar wins followed by two draws. However, Tigres UANL got back to winning ways but ended up dropping a couple of points last week against FC Juarez.

The statistics speak for themselves and that is why the odds are in favor of the visitors in this match-up. Atlas FC have held strong teams to a draw, but Tigres UANL are out to grab the title this season and will be too hot to handle for the hosts.

Previous Meetings

To date, there have been 28 Liga MX encounters between these two sides. Tigres UANL have won 12 times, while Atlas FC have only secured five wins. 11 games have ended in a result neither side would want after recent events.

In the reverse fixture during the Apertura season, Camilo Vargas was sent off in the seventh minute as Tigres UANL went on to win 2-0 with a goal from Andre-Pierre Gignac and an own goal from Anderson Santamaria.

Atlas FC have won two out of the last five Liga MX encounters between these two sides. Two others ended in draws with Tigres UANL winning only once. At the Estadio Jalisco, the two sides have met 14 times. Six of these encounters have ended in draws. Tigres UANL have won five, while Atlas FC have only managed to win thrice.

A Draw Would Be Equivalent To A Win For Atlas FC

There is no doubt that Tigres UANL are out in search of the title this season. The initial statement was made during the transfer window when promising recruitments were brought in and the statement has been well-supported by the performances that have followed.

In this scenario, Atlas FC will be readying themselves to face a barrage of attacks in the next game. They have already drawn the majority of their games this season and another one to that tally would be frustrating for the players and the fans.

However, considering Tigres UANL’s strength, squad depth and performance this season, a draw would not be a shabby result for Atlas FC. At the same time, it would turn out to be an absolutely frustrating outcome for the visitors.

No Goals Scored In The Last Two Home Games

In six games so far, Atlas FC have scored nine goals and conceded ten. They have scored four goals in four home games this season. However, all four came in the first two games on home soil.

In the last two games at the Estadio Jalisco, Atlas FC have failed to get off the mark. They could not score past Deportivo Toluca in a 0-0 draw and then failed to score in the 2-0 defeat against CF Monterrey.

The last time Atlas FC failed to score in three consecutive home games was in the Apertura 2021 season. This could be a hard record to avoid as they come up against a side that has kept four clean sheets this season so far.

Atlas FC Could Be Without Their Key Winger

After scoring his first goal of the season in Atlas FC’s 2-2 draw against Santos Laguna, three games ago, Jonathan Herrera has missed the last three games for the hosts due to a muscle injury. In three appearances this season Herrera has scored once and assisted twice.

His absence will be a big blow for Atlas FC, who will also be without Edison Flores. The attacking midfielder suffered an abdominal injury towards the end of last month. Another name on the injury list is Mauro Manotas who has been out with a knee injury since July last year.

Tigres UANL Will Guard Their Unbeaten Streak

After taking 15 points from seven games, Tigres UANL are sitting at the top of the table, level on points with CF Monterrey, who have a game in hand. Tigres UANL’s unbeaten streak stands at seven games and they will surely want to extend that to eight with a win against Atlas FC.

Andre-Pierre Gignac is still firing on all cylinders for Tigres UANL. The Frenchman has already added five goals to his kitty this season. New signing Nicolas Ibanez has netted three goals in five games.

Defensively, Tigres UANL are the most astute team in the league at this stage. The goal concession rate for Tigres UANL is just 0.6, which is the best record this season so far. They have also kept the most clean sheets (4) this season.

Scoring Almost Two Goals Per Match

After seven games, Tigres UANL have six different goal scorers. Former Santos Laguna midfielder Fernando Gorriaran has gotten off the mark and provided a couple of assists this season. Midfielder Guido Pizarro and defender Diego Reyes have also scored once each.

Luis Quinones has been an authoritative figure in attack after Gignac. The winger has scored three and assisted two in seven games. In addition to that, eight players have got their names on the assists charts so far.

The front four of Quinones, Ibanez, Gignac, and Gorriaran looks extremely menacing as the quartet has scored 12 goals and set up six.

Discipline Is The Only Aspect Where Tigres UANL Are Lacking

The business done during the transfer market has been excellent for Tigres UANL. The existing players have carried their top form into this season and the defensive performances have been solid so far.

However, they are picking up quite a few bookings every match. After seven games, the side have picked up 14 yellow cards already. So far, none of the yellows have turned to reds, but if this cynical play continues on the pitch, it could hurt Tigres UANL in crucial moments.
