Toluca vs Queretaro FC Prediction

Toluca vs Queretaro FC Predictions

Despite being fifth in the league, winning games has been a challenge for Toluca. The club has only won one out of their last five games, and that win came against Apertura 2022 champions Pachuca at the start of September. Since then, Toluca has lost to Tijuana and held Club America, Chivas Guadalajara, and Tigres UANL to draws.

Like their opponents, Queretaro FC have also managed to nab just a solitary victory in their last five Liga MX games. That win came against Cruz Azul away from home almost two weeks ago. During this run, Queretaro FC has drawn matches against Puebla and Club Leon and lost games against Club America and Pumas UNAM.

Queretaro FC are dangling in 13th as things stand and are eying playoff qualification this season. However, they will be the clear underdogs in this encounter. However, if the visitors are able to replicate one of their stellar away performances, it could spell trouble for the hosts. But Toluca is fully capable of dealing with Queretaro’s attack and will certainly take all three points.

Previous Meetings

The bookmakers have backed the hosts to win this encounter, and the head-to-head record between these two sides also backs Toluca. Since 2010, these two sides have met 26 times in the league, and Toluca has won 13 of those encounters. Meanwhile, Queretaro has only emerged victorious on six occasions. The other seven encounters have all ended in a draw.

In the 2023 Clausura season, Jonathan Torres’ 31st-minute strike was enough to give Queretaro a home win over Toluca. It also ended their four-game winless run against the ten-time Liga MX champions. However, this time, the match will be in Toluca’s backyard, where Queretaro failed to win in the last three attempts.

Toluca Could Topple Down The Table

As things stand, Toluca are sitting in fifth place, and at first glance, it may seem that they are almost certain to secure a playoff spot this season. However, they are in a perilous position, with four teams closing in on them with additional games in hand.

FC Juarez and Atlas FC are level on points with Toluca, and both sides have a game in hand. Tijuana and CF Monterrey are one point off the lot. The former also has an additional game to play, while the latter has two. Hence, Toluca cannot afford any slip-ups.

Lowest Number Of Wins In The Top Ten

Toluca boast an impressive record of only losing two out of 11 games this season. However, they have only won three out of the remaining games and drawn six.

No one has won fewer or as many games as Toluca in the current top ten of the Apertura table. The hosts will be desperate to turn things around, starting with the next game.

Winger’s Return Expected To Boost Attack

The hosts are eagerly waiting to snap their ongoing winless streak. They were up against strong sides in the last three games and managed to get a point from each match.

There was a lack of firepower in all those games, as Juan Dominguez was sidelined due to an injury. The winger has scored four goals in seven league appearances this season and is fit to face Queretaro FC.

Queretaro FC Need To Take Small Steps

A disastrous Apertura 2022 season saw Queretaro FC finish at the bottom of the table with just one win from 17 games. The club recovered well in the Clausura 2023 season, finishing tenth and qualifying for the playoffs.

The objective in the Apertura 2023 season has been the same: qualify for the playoffs and go as far as possible in the knockouts. However, they are two points off the final qualifying spot and many teams above them have additional games in hand, making the next match a must-win.

All Wins Are Coming On The Road

Every football club in the world prefers playing games at their home stadium and has the advantage of playing on known territory with the majority of fans backing them.

For Queretaro, it has been the opposite this season. They have won none of their five home games, and all their wins this season have come on the road, as they have won three out of their six away games this season.

Replacing Star Striker Has Not Been Easy

Angel Sepulveda spent 19 months at Queretaro FC before joining Cruz Azul in August of this year. The striker was a key figure in the club’s starting lineup, and his departure was a big blow.

After his departure, Queretaro FC signed Nicolas Cordero on loan from Huracan. The striker is yet to start a game but has made four substitute appearances, scoring and assisting once.
