New York Knicks Win Game 4 (No, 47%)

It’s been a while since the Knicks lost a game, and we just don’t know how they’re going to respond. One is almost tempted to think that the hype and expectations of the crowd at Madison Square Garden worked against the home team in Game 3. On top of that, the Knicks are just 14-17 against the spread coming off a loss this season. That’s one of the worst records in the NBA following a defeat. With this being a tight spread, it’s hard to be confident the Knicks will bounce back, so we’ll back the Spurs in Game 4 now that they’ve avoided the sweep.

Keep in mind that San Antonio has bounced back in tough spots all postseason. They beat the Thunder after trailing 3-2, so it’s not far-fetched to think they can tie this series. The Spurs are also 13-7 against the spread this season as a road underdog. They handled the hostile MSG crowd in Game 3, and they are even more prepared to do the same in Game 4. After outscoring the Knicks in three of four quarters last game, the Spurs are a good bet to take Game 4 as well.

Knicks vs Spurs Over 216.5 Total Points in Game 4 (Yes, 51%)

Admittedly, we got this wrong in Game 3. After low-scoring slugfests in the first two games, the lid came off the basket in Game 3. Neither team was spectacular offensively, although we saw both teams easily surpass 100 points. That could indicate a turning point in the series in which the offenses start to take over now that each team has had time to adjust to how the opposing team’s defense wants to play them.

Just look at the way the stars shone in Game 3. Both Victor Wembanyam and Jalen Brunson finished with 32 points. If those two players are getting what they want offensively, it’s a sign that both teams are scratching the bottom of the barrel defensively. That’s a strong indicator that we have more high-scoring games on the horizon, especially since both teams have hit the over more times than not during the postseason.

OG Anunoby 15+ Points in Game 4 (Yes, 65%)

Anunoby has been an integral part of New York’s success throughout the postseason. Teams have been forced to focus on Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, which is when Anunoby creates problems. He’s also able to score in a variety of ways, making him a scorer with high potential. That was certainly on display in Game 3 when Anunoby scored 28 points in a losing effort.

Of course, we’re not expecting Anunoby to match or exceed 28 points in Game 4. However, he’s scored at least 17 points in five straight games, so scoring 15 or more feels like a safe bet. Anunoby was hindered by an injury earlier in the playoffs, but he’s back to being healthy and productive. In fact, there are only three playoff games in which Anunoby didn’t reach 15 points, and he was two points or less away in all three games. That makes us confident he’ll reach that threshold in Game 4.

Victor Wembanyama 4+ Assists in Game 4 (Yes, 42%)

Wembanyama’s assist totals have been relatively low throughout the playoffs, but we’re going to jump on the bandwagon after the big man had six assists in Game 3. That was just the fifth time in 20 playoff games that Wembanyama collected at least four assists. In most games, he didn’t even come close to hitting that number, as he had two assists or fewer in five straight games before Game 3.

However, Wembanyama showed both a need and a willingness in Game 3 to pass the ball. Needless to say, the Knicks want the ball out of Wembanyama’s hands. He showed a willingness to take what the defense gave him, leading to a high assist total. Thanks in part to his passing, Game 3 was Wembanyama’s best game of the series. He’ll look to build off of that in Game 4, making us confident he can accumulate at least four assists.
