Pinstripe Bowl Syracuse vs. Minnesota

The Pinstripe Bowl kicks off on December 29 between Syracuse and Minnesota.

Both teams will be without players in this one, including the following:

  • Syracuse: Courtney Jackson, WR (Transfer Portal)

  • Minnesota: Michael Dixon (S) and Steven Ortiz (DB) - (Transfer Portal).

Here, we’ll look at the best bets for this Yankee Stadium College Football Bowl game.

Syracuse vs. Minnesota Best Bets

Pick: Minnesota -9.5 (-115) at FanDuel

Syracuse started the year off to a hot start, winning their first six games. However, something seemingly happened to them after their loss to Clemson. Since then, the Orange have won just one game.

As for Minnesota, they played pretty well this year, but their offense started to have issues down the stretch, scoring 20 points or less in five of their last eight games.

Where Minnesota shines is in the run game. Running back Mahomed Ibrahim had 304 carries this year for 1,604 yards and a mind-blowing 19 touchdowns.

The Orange have played OK defensively this year, giving up just under 340 yards of offense per game. Still, they rank 66th in run defense, allowing 149 yards per game, though just 3.81 yards per carry.

If Minnesota cannot get Ibrahim going in this one, they’re dead in the water. Still, we won’t bank on the Syracuse offense and quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, who has just 50 attempts all season and is completing 44% of his passes.

A total of 42.5 in a college football game is low, but this game is one that we should see buck the trend of higher-scoring college games.

It’s pretty simple—Minnesota will run the ball well against a lowly Syracuse run defense, and we cannot trust the Orange to do much here offensively.

Minnesota will control the time of possession and drain this clock on the back of Ibrahim.
