NHL Picks Today

Seattle Kraken vs New York Rangers

Rangers Moneyline -182 (FanDuel)

The Seattle Kraken will take on the New York Rangers for the second time this season. The Kraken are having a great season, but the Rangers are also performing well. This game will be close, but I have to give the edge to New York. Bet on the Rangers’ moneyline.

The Kraken are a great team and one of the best in the Western Conference. Their offense is among the best in the NHL, as they average nearly 3.5 goals per game. Their defense is not nearly as good, but it is not horrible. It is worth noting the Kraken have lost their two games, but that does not take away from their success this season. The Kraken have turned it around this year after failing to make the Playoffs last season.

I realize I just spoke pretty positively about the Kraken, but I left out an important detail. They will not be well-rested for this game, as they faced the New Jersey Devils on Thursday and lost 3-1. However, the Rangers will be well-rested, coming off one day of rest, and be in a much better position than the Kraken. In addition, they are playing at home and on a four-game home winning streak. If that is not enough, I will briefly go into the Rangers’ numbers. The Rangers’ offense is a little worse than the Krakens’, but their defense is significantly better. Play it safe, and bet on the Rangers’ moneyline.

Arizona Coyotes vs Chicago Blackhawks

Blackhawks Moneyline -110 (FanDuel)

The Arizona Coyotes will take on the Chicago Blackhawks in what will probably be the most boring game of the day. These are two of the worst teams in the NHL, so this match will not be on many people’s radars. Regardless, I would bet on the Blackhawks' moneyline. The game can go either way, but the Blackhawks have a home-ice advantage.

The Coyotes are having a tough go of it this season. In their previous game, they beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 but still have a 17-28-4 record. They are going through a rebuild, and their record reflects that. Offensively, they are quite slow, and defensively, they do not have the proper pieces. They also do not shoot enough each game. Arizona averages a measly 25.9 shots per game. However, there are other reasons they will lose this game. They will lose because they are playing on the road. Surprisingly, the Coyotes perform pretty well at home but have not been able to replicate that success away from Phoenix. Arizona has an 11-8-2 home record but a 6-20-4 away record. That stat is the most telling one of all. Arizona simply cannot win on the road.

I just about why the Coyotes will lose, but I will add some pertinent information about the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks, like the Coyotes, are rebuilding. Their numbers are troublesome, but they have beaten some decent teams at home. Chicago has upset the Buffalo Sabres, Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, and Seattle Kraken at the United Center. All of those teams are significantly better than the Coyotes. Bet on Chicago to win this game.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Anaheim Ducks

 Over 6.5 goals -115 (FanDuel)

This bet will be the only over/under one of the day. The Pittsburgh Penguins will travel to Southern California and face the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second time this season. The Penguins are significantly better, so they will win this game, but the Ducks will score a few goals. Bet on the over.

The Penguins are having a decent season and in the second Wild Card spot with 59 points. Their offense is solid and averages 3.24 goals per game. Defensively, they could improve, but their offense is pretty impressive. With that being said, the Penguins’ offense should have additional success tonight, as they face an Anaheim Ducks team that allows nearly four goals a game. The Ducks lack competent defensemen and do not have many players worth watching. The Penguins will put up four+ goals on this Ducks’ team.

I spoke briefly about the Ducks’ struggles this year, but they will not be shut out this game. Anaheim only averages 2.44 goals per game, but the Penguins allow over three goals a game. If you put those numbers together, three Ducks goals seem quite likely. If you combine the Penguins’ four goals with the Ducks' three goals, you will hit the over.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Maple Leafs -1.5 -106 (FanDuel)

Our final bet of the day involves an interesting matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets. The Maple Leafs will make the trek to Colombus to face the Blue Jackets for this battle. Toronto is dramatically better than the Blue Jackets, so you should obviously bet on their moneyline. However, I would push that further and tell you to bet on them to cover the spread. Bet on Toronto -1.5.

As I said above, the Maple Leafs are much better than the Blue Jackets. However, that does not mean anything unless I explain why. Toronto is having a great regular season and has the fourth-most points (70) in the Eastern Conference. They have not gone on any long winning steaks, but they have also not gone on a losing streak this season. Not many teams can say that 50+ games into the year.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins but crushed the Washington Capitals 5-1 in their game before that. Their offense is in the top ten, and their defense is firing on all cylinders. I expect them both to shine against this horrendous Blue Jackets team. The Blue Jackets are the worst team in the NHL and average less than 2.5 goals per game. The Maple Leafs should have no problem dismantling a team that scores that little. Bet on Toronto to cover the spread.
