One of the earliest games to watch in Tuesday's slate of NHL games is the Pittsburgh Penguins (10-10) at the Nashville Predators (10-10). This is a matchup that features middle-tier Eastern and Western Conferences trying to establish their presence and a rhythm.
The Penguins were feeling good about their early-season rebound after a 5-3 road win to get to an 8-6 overall record. After that win, the Penguins have lost four of the last six games. They are coming off a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs this past Saturday.
The Predators started the season up-and-down, hovering around .500%. After the 3-2 overtime win over Toronto, the Predators would lose six of the next seven games. They have been able to rebound with five consecutive wins.
The Predators have established offense this season under the intensity of forward Filip Forsberg and center Ryan O'Reilly. The two stars have combined for 21 goals and 22 assists. Nashville is ranked 11th in the league in goals per game (3.35) and has averaged 4.6 goals in its five-game winning streak.
They will have a tough task against the Penguins' defense, which ranks fifth in goals allowed per game (2.6). Pittsburgh possesses a solid set of goalies and a solid set of defenders.
The key to this game will be decided based on the production on the other side of the ice. Something has to give between the Penguins’ offense, which ranks 16th in goals per game (3.15) and the Predators’ defense, which ranks 17th in goals allowed per game (3.2). The Penguins have more efficient talent and that could be the difference.

The top game on Tuesday night in the NHL is the highly anticipated matchup between the Dallas Stars (12-5-2) and the Winnipeg Jets (12-6-2). This will be a game that will feature two teams that are closely ranked on the offensive and defensive sides of the ice.
This will be the second time this season that the Stars and Jets will meet on the ice. The Stars defeated the Jets in Winnipeg on November 11 in a huge second period. Dallas center Wyatt Johnston accounted for one goal and one assist in the matchup.
The Stars have been one of the most impressive teams this 2023-2024 NHL Season. They didn't suffer their first regular-period loss until six games into the season. Their losses have come from teams currently projected to make the NHL Playoffs, apart from their latest 7-4 home loss to the Calgary Flames this past Friday.
Like the Stars, the Jets have been one of the most consistent teams this season on both sides of the ice. They didn't start the season smoothly, accounting for a 4-4-2 overall record in their first ten games. The Jets, however, have rebounded by winning eight of their last ten games. They are coming off a 3-2 road loss to the Nashville Predators this past Sunday.
The Jets are just a little more efficient on both sides of the ice than the Stars. The Jets are ranked sixth in goals per game (3.55), while the Stars are ranked ninth by averaging 3.42 goals. Defensively, Winnipeg is ranked 11th in goals allowed per game (2.9), while Dallas is 12th (2.95 goals allowed per game). The Jets have the momentum and the home-court advantage and will look to redeem themselves from the previous loss to Dallas.

This Tuesday night can be a big opportunity for two teams looking to find some stability. The Seattle Kraken (8-9-5) are going on the road to take on the Chicago Blackhawks (6-13).
The Kraken are a team that just can't establish some form of rhythm and account for consistent wins. The Blackhawks have seen incredible performances from rookie center Chuck Bedard, but the team has not contributed to multiple wins.
There have been several games this season that the Kraken have played, but they have been unable to finish strong. Seattle is 3-5 this season in overtime or shootout games. There have been only two instances this season when the Kraken have won two consecutive games. Their last win was a 7-1 score over the San Jose Sharks on November 22.
The Blackhawks have felt great about the addition of a young star in Bedard. This 2023-2024 NHL Season has shown that it will bring more talent and better roster building to get Chicago to a better level of productivity. Chicago has lost six of the last seven games.
Both Seattle and Chicago are among the worst teams in the league on the offensive and defensive sides of the ice. Chicago just ranked 29th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.68) and goals per game (2.58). Seattle is better on offense and defense, but just barely. With the exception of the 5-1 recent loss to the Vancouver Canucks, the Kraken have scored at least three goals in six of their previous games.
Seattle is finding a little bit of a rhythm, while Chicago is lacking too much talent to keep up with most teams in the league.
