Japan vs. Germany - W

  • Location: Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France

  • Game Time & Date: 5 a.m. E.T. on Thursday, August 1

  • Coverage: Peacock, NBCOlympics.com

  • Point Spread: Japan -1.5 (odds via bet365)

Japan had the unfortunate luck of playing the U.S. in their opener. But, to be fair, while their defense had no answer for the U.S. offense, they played well on the offensive end of the court, scoring 76 points and hitting 15 of 39 three-point attempts.

However, Belgium struggled to make threes vs. Germany (5-18), so Japan may need to rely on scoring another way.

Mai Yamamoto (Japan) OVER 13.5 Points at (-115) at bet365

While she was not the leading scorer for Japan against the U.S., she appears to be a fairly consistent performer. She scored 17 points in that game and averaged 17ppg in the qualifying tournament (21, 15, and 15).

This game should be close, which means Japan will need one of its best players to bring her 'A' game from beginning to end. As long as she gets around 30 minutes of playing time, she'll score 14+ points against Germany.

Bet on Mai Yamamoto (-115) Props at bet365

Satou Sabally (Germany), OVER 18.5 at (-115) at bet365

Her total is a little higher than we'd like, but Sabally is coming off a 17-point game against Belgium and scored 18 and 20 points in the two qualifying games she appeared in. However, what makes us think she will score 19+ in this game is Japan's lack of defense against the U.S.

The German offensive attack cannot rival that of the U.S., but we like it enough to think Sabally will score 19+ points.

Australia vs. Canada - W

  • Location: Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France

  • Game Time & Date: 7:30 a.m. E.T. on Thursday, August 1

  • Coverage: Peacock, NBCOlympics.com

  • Point Spread: Australia -8.5 (odds via bet365)

Both teams were incredible disappointments in their respective openers, Australia getting upset by Nigeria and Canada laying an egg vs. France. If either hopes to make it to the next round, they must fix what's broken and win this game.

Ezi Magbegor (Australia), UNDER 11.5 Points at (+100) at bet365

She was good for 12.7 ppg in the qualifying tournament and averages over 13 in the WNBA, but it looks like her usage on the offensive end of the court is somewhat sporadic for Australia. She had nine on 4-9 shooting against Nigeria, and we are not confident she'll do better against a Canadian team out to prove it isn't as bad as it looked in their loss to France.

If this prop had minus-money odds, we'd say pass on it, but the plus-money odds make it worth considering.

France vs. Nigeria - W

  • Location: Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France

  • Game Time & Date: 11:15 a.m. E.T. on Thursday, August 1

  • Coverage: Peacock, NBCOlympics.com

  • Point Spread: France -18.5  (odds via bet365)

France was expected to be one of the stronger teams at the Olympics, so far, so good after one game. They spread the ball around well on offense and played good enough defense for Canada to get its offense on track.

Nigeria is the early Cinderella story after upsetting Australia in their opener. But fans probably found the win surprising because they had the 100-46 stomping the U.S. put on Nigeria in mind. However, the perception is unfair because Team USA stomps on almost everyone.

If France takes Nigeria lightly, we could see another early upset.

Gabby Williams, UNDER 13.5 at (-115) at bet365

While she played a solid game in the win over Canada, Williams did not have a significant role on the offensive side of the court. Then again, no one appeared to be the go-to scoring threat for France. She averaged 16.3 per game in qualifiers, but we're taking the UNDER until we see her play a more significant role on offense for France.

Bet on Gabby Williams (-115) Props at bet365

Marine Johannes, UNDER 12.5 at (-115) at bet365

Her seven-point game against Canada was a little surprising after watching her play a bigger role in the qualifying tournament (14 ppg). Of course, she would have done better had she not shot so poorly (3-11). But she also didn't play much (22:08); that could be the norm for her.

Without more time on the court, she will not get over he shooting woes.

Bet on Marine Johannes (-115) Props at bet365

Amy Okonkwo, OVER 12.5 Points at (-115) at bet365

Okonkwo played a big part in Nigeria's upset win over Australia in their opener, with 13 points in roughly 26 minutes on the court. France had a solid defensive game in their win over Canada, which could mean a rougher day for her.

However, she has the potential to play even better than she did vs. Australia. She averaged 15.3 in the Antwerp qualifier and 17.4 in the 2023 Afrobasket tournament. While she only scored eight points in that game, she was 1-7 from the floor; she will not shoot that poorly again.

Belgium vs. United States - W

  • Location: Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France

  • Game Time & Date: 3 p.m. E.T. on Thursday, August 1

  • Coverage: Peacock, NBCOlympics.com

  • Point Spread: USA -23.5  (odds via bet365)

Belgium played well against the U.S. in the qualifying tournament and their Olympic warm-ups but stunk up the court against Germany. Was it because they had a bad day or because Germany was a vastly superior team? They'll try to prove it was the former against the U.S.

For the United States, this game will be about winning, but more so about fine-tuning a team that looked good but not great against Japan.

A'ja Wilson, OVER 21.5 Points at (-115) at bet365

OVER 10.5 Rebounds at (-115) at bet365

In Wilson we trust! She is the leader of her team in the WNBA, and it looks like she'll take a similar role in the Olympics. At 21.5, it will likely be a close call, but with Wilson, betting on the OVER is the way to go until it isn't.

There was nothing about Belgium's defense that makes us think they'll slow her down on the scoreboard or the boards.

Bet on A'ja Wilson Points (-115) Props at bet365

Sabrina Ionescu, OVER 9.5 Points at +9.5 at bet365

She had 11 points in 19 minutes on the court vs. Japan and shot 4-8 from the floor and 3-7 from the three-point line. Even if she gets the same amount of time in this game, we feel good about her scoring 9.5+ because the U.S. shot poorly from three-point range against Japan.

Consequently, the U.S. will have shooters like Ionescu shoot away against a Belgium team Germany hit eight of 16 three-pointers.

Bet on Sabrina Ionescu Props at bet365

Diana Taurasi, OVER 5.5 Points at (-125) at bet365

Against Japan she only scored two and missed her only three-point attempt. However, the three-pointer is a significant aspect of the USA's arsenal. So, it behooves the U.S. to let its sharpshooters shoot away against a Belgium team that struggles to defend the perimeter.

That means a few more shots for Taurasi; she only needs to make two to go OVER her total.

Bet on Diana Taurasi (-125) Props at bet365
