Interactive Brokers launched IBKR Prediction Markets in May 2026, adding CFTC-approved event contracts to a platform better known for traditional trading products like stocks, options, futures, and crypto.

This Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets review breaks down the platform, from the trading experience and market selection to fees, banking, and support, to see how it stacks up against the best prediction market apps.

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Bonuses and Incentives

New users at Interactive Brokers receive a flat sign-up credit when registering. While it is a solid perk, traders looking for the best US prediction market bonuses should note that the platform also has a broader Refer a Friend program, but that is a general brokerage promotion with separate eligibility requirements, not a dedicated event-contract bonus.

$10 Account-Opening Credit

New IBKR Prediction Markets accounts receive a $10 credit upon registering. The bonus is automatically added after signup, and no promo code is required to redeem the offer.

The intro promo is not limited to event contracts. You can use it for any eligible IBKR product, including prediction markets, stocks, or options, or withdraw directly.

WSN's Expert Opinion on the IBKR Prediction Market Promo

''A $10 credit does not materially change account funding, but IBKR deserves kudos for how it handles the offer. Most prediction market promos push you back into one specific product. IBKR doesn’t. You can use the credit on event contracts, put it toward another IBKR product, or withdraw it. That tells you what IBKR is really selling here: not a bonus-hunting app, but prediction markets inside a much bigger brokerage account.''

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets User Experience

Interactive Brokers offers Prediction Markets on desktop, web, and mobile. Traders can use the full platform on desktop or access contracts through the IBKR Mobile app on iOS and Android under ForecastTrader.

Desktop and Web

IBKR Prediction Markets is organized around a top navigation bar with categories like Popular, Elections, Financial Markets, Technology, Economic Indicators, Government, and Environmental.

Each category opens its own set of filters. Elections, for example, break down into areas such as Election Board, Broad Elections, International Elections, Mayoral, and United States Congress, while Financial Markets includes filters for commodities, crypto, foreign exchange, stock indices, and corporate events.

Market lists can be sorted alphabetically, by open interest, or by Buy Now pricing. Traders can also switch between grid and list views, which helps when comparing many contracts at once.

Desktop and Web

Once you open a market, such as BTC Price Range EOY, the page is split into three main tabs: Contracts, Related Products, and Research. The Contracts tab displays each strike-price bracket as a separate row, with live Yes/No pricing and open interest. You can also select multiple brackets and plot them together on a single price history chart.

Traders who want to see resting bids and offers at each price level need to open the contract in TWS or IBKR Desktop, where the full order book is available.

IBKR also does a good job explaining what each contract means before you trade. The About This Market section lays out the resolution rules in plain language, while the Market Rules by Exchange box shows where the contract is listed. For example, Kalshi-listed contracts carry a green KALSHI badge, so traders know the source exchange before placing an order.

The Related Products tab automatically displays similar contracts after a trader opens a market. For example, BTC Price Range EOY can bring up nearby markets like Bitcoin Highest Price and Bitcoin Lowest Price, reducing the need to search for related contracts one by one.

BTC Price Range EOY

Mobile App

IBKR Prediction Markets can be accessed through the IBKR Mobile app on iOS and Android. In the app, the section appears under ForecastTrader in the sidebar menu.

The mobile experience is more compact than the desktop, but the basic flow is easy to follow. Traders choose a category, such as Financial Markets, then drill into a chart of contract prices and the available strike prices below it.

After selecting a strike, the app opens a clear order ticket with the action shown upfront, such as Buy No Now at $0.11, followed by the quantity field. All IBKR Prediction Markets trades use limit orders, so traders choose the price they’re willing to pay or accept before placing the order. For those unfamiliar with how these cent-based contract prices translate into implied probabilities, a guide to reading prediction market odds can help clarify how the numbers work.

WSN's Expert Opinion on the IBKR Prediction Markets Interface

''The simplified IBKR Prediction Markets view makes it easy to browse active categories, compare related contracts, and understand how prices have moved over time. What it doesn’t show as clearly is market depth. The price-history chart is useful, but it doesn’t replace a bid/ask ladder. Casual traders can get by with the standard interface, while anyone working an active contract around an election count or economic release will likely prefer the full order book in TWS or IBKR Desktop.''

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Available

IBKR Prediction Markets offers several non-sports market categories, including Popular, Elections, Financial Markets, Technology, Economic Indicators, Government, and Environmental. This setup covers many of the most popular US prediction market events, ranging from macroeconomic data releases to political races.

The Elections category covers US and international races, including Congress, gubernatorial contests, mayoral races, presidential markets, election groupings, and longer-range contracts such as the 2028 nomination race.

Financial markets include commodities, corporate activity, corporate performance, crypto, foreign exchange, stock market indices, and index performance. Contracts can track outcomes such as BTC price ranges, oil highs, Nasdaq ranges, and other market-driven events.

Economic Indicators covers Fed decisions, interest rates, inflation, labor, housing, taxes, energy, sentiment surveys, and broader economic activity. These markets are tied to scheduled data releases, policy decisions, and macroeconomic thresholds.

Government contracts focus on fiscal policy, government actions, domestic political scenarios, and geopolitical events. Examples include questions around presidential terms, shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz, and the timing of a US-Iran nuclear agreement.

IBKR Prediction Markets

Technology currently centers on artificial intelligence, with contracts tied to model releases, OpenAI milestones, nuclear reactor licensing, and space-related questions. Environmental covers weather, temperatures, agriculture, climate change, CO2 levels, sea levels, and monthly US temperature averages.

At the time of review, Elections led IBKR by activity, with about 190.1M in category-level open interest. Government, Financial Markets, Economic Indicators, Technology, and Environmental followed behind.

WSN's Expert Opinion on the IBKR Prediction Market Asset Selection

''IBKR’s market list has a very different personality from the sports-first apps. Corporate Performance, Foreign Exchange, Fed decisions, inflation thresholds, and similar markets make it feel closer to a macro trading desk than a prediction market built for casual event-contract traders. Elections and Government are where most of the action is right now, while Environmental is much quieter. If you want sports event contracts or game-outcome markets, this is not the right fit. If you want to trade politics, policy, rates, CPI, and market-moving headlines, IBKR makes a lot more sense.''

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Banking & Fees

The main costs on IBKR Prediction Markets are contract commissions and funding-related fees. Trading fees come from the commission charged on each contract, while banking costs depend on how you move money in or out of your IBKR account.

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Trading Fees

IBKR Prediction Markets fees depend on where the contract comes from. ForecastEx, CME, and Kalshi contracts can all appear inside the IBKR experience, but they don’t use the same pricing model.

Contract SourceIBKR CommissionNotes
ForecastEx Contracts$0.00 per contractNo third-party fees added
CME Event Contracts$0.01 per contractPlus pass-through exchange and regulatory fees
Kalshi ContractsKalshi exchange fee appliesVariable, scales with contract price, capped near $0.02 per contract at the exchange level

ForecastEx contracts include an unusual perk of an incentive coupon based on the daily closing market value of open positions. The rate is currently 3.12% APY and is credited monthly. For traders holding longer-dated contracts, such as a 2028 election market or a multi-year CPI threshold, that coupon can add value during the holding period regardless of how the contract eventually settles.

CME Event Contracts use a different structure. IBKR’s own example uses a CME Gold contract asking whether gold will close above $2,035.00 that day. If YES trades at $19, two contracts come out to $38 before commissions. If the contract settles in the money, each CME Event Contract pays $100, so two contracts return $200 before fees.

CME contracts need to be read separately because their $100 payout model differs from the $1 model used by ForecastEx and Kalshi. A 19-cent ForecastEx or Kalshi contract and a $19 CME contract may point to a similar implied probability, but they are not the same on a dollar-per-contract basis.

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Deposits & Withdrawals

IBKR Prediction Markets uses the same funding system as a regular Interactive Brokers brokerage account. That means deposits and withdrawals are handled via bank transfers, wire transfers, and mobile check deposits. When weighing fiat vs. crypto prediction markets, IBKR firmly sides with the traditional model - meaning you won't find instant crypto funding or wallet-style connections here.

MethodTypeSpeedFees
ACH Bank TransferDepositFirst deposit tradable in about 4 business days; later deposits often immediateFree
ACH Bank TransferWithdrawalAbout 5 business days to originating bank; 44-business-day hold to a different bankFree for 1 withdrawal/month, then $1
Wire TransferDepositSame business day to 4 business daysFree to receive (sending bank may charge)
Wire TransferWithdrawalStandard wire processingFree for 1 withdrawal/month, then $10
Mobile Check Deposit (US)DepositFunds generally available about 6 business days after approvalFree

Margin accounts require a $2,000 minimum deposit. Cash accounts usually don’t have a minimum for most individual users.

WSN's Expert Opinion on the IBKR Funding Process and Fee Structure

''The banking side is where IBKR feels least like a modern prediction market app. You don’t get debit card deposits, PayPal, or direct crypto funding, and a first ACH deposit can take about four business days before it’s tradable. That’s a bad fit for impulse trades, but it makes more sense for users who treat prediction markets as part of a brokerage account. The fee side is the payoff, with $0 ForecastEx commissions and a 3.12% APY coupon on open positions. IBKR is better for patient traders than users who want to load $50 and fire immediately.''

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Customer Support

IBKR Prediction Markets customer support uses the main Interactive Brokers support system rather than a separate prediction-markets desk. Available support options include:

  • Phone: US clients can call 1-877-442-2757. Official phone support hours are Sunday 1 p.m. ET to Friday 7:30 p.m. ET.

  • Live chat: Available through the Client Portal support menu. Official chat room hours are Sunday 8 p.m. ET to Friday 8 p.m. ET.

  • Message Center/web ticket: Formal inquiries are generally answered within 24 hours during standard operating hours.

  • Self-service: IBKR Campus, Traders’ Academy, FAQs, platform guides, and the IBKR Forum.

Phone support is the most efficient channel for account access issues. Password resets, security device issues, and login problems must be handled by phone because live chat and the Message Center can’t verify identity in those cases.

WSN's Expert Opinion on the IBKR Support and Educational Resources

''IBKR does a good job pairing human support with resources users can work through on their own. Phone and chat coverage across most of the trading week beats what many prediction market apps provide, and IBKR Campus gives users a better place to learn contract mechanics before placing trades. I’m fine with login and security issues being phone-only, since account access needs tighter verification. The missing piece of the Interactive Brokers customer support is Saturday coverage, which can be painful if you’re locked out at the wrong time.''

How to Sign Up for Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets

Signing up for IBKR Prediction Markets is more involved than opening an account on most prediction market apps. You’re opening a full Interactive Brokers account, so the process includes standard brokerage onboarding, identity verification, tax details, and trading profile questions.

Here’s how the sign-up process works:

  1. Open the application. Go to the IBKR Prediction Markets page and select Open Account.

  2. Create your login. Enter your email address, choose a username and password, and confirm your country of residence.

  3. Verify your email. IBKR sends a confirmation email before you can continue with the full application.

  4. Enter your legal residence. Select your state of legal residence and start the application. IBKR warns users that this step can’t be changed once the application begins.

  5. Verify your identity. Provide your legal name, date of birth, residential address, and Social Security number.

  6. Complete the KYC profile. IBKR asks for income, tax information, trading experience, investment objectives, and funding details. This is the same type of onboarding used for a regular brokerage account, not a shortened flow built only for prediction markets.

  7. Fund the account. Link a bank account for ACH, set up a wire transfer, or use mobile check deposit.

  8. Start trading. Once the account is approved and funded, you can browse prediction market categories, choose a contract, and place an order to buy Yes or No.

The main thing to know is that IBKR does not use a quick wallet-style sign-up flow. US users go through federally required brokerage identity checks before trading.

How to Sign Up

Existing Interactive Brokers clients have a shorter path. If you already have an approved IBKR account, you can usually request Prediction Markets trading permissions from inside your account instead of completing a new application from scratch.

Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets Final Verdict

IBKR Prediction Markets is not trying to replace a sports-event-contract app. It brings contracts from ForecastEx, CME, and Kalshi into one IBKR account, with the strongest coverage centered on elections, government, financial markets, economic indicators, technology, and environmental outcomes.

The biggest selling points are the costs. ForecastEx contracts come with $0 IBKR commission, and open ForecastEx positions currently earn a 3.12% APY incentive coupon based on daily closing market value. That gives IBKR a fee and holding-period advantage that most prediction market apps don’t match.

Interactive Brokers also gives users useful ways to navigate markets, including related products and category-level open interest. That helps when you’re comparing different event contracts across politics, macro, rates, inflation, and market-driven outcomes.

Funding runs through ACH, wire, and mobile check deposit, not debit card, PayPal, or crypto. A first ACH deposit can take about 4 business days to become tradable, and new users go through full brokerage onboarding rather than a quick app sign-up.

The sports omission is intentional. IBKR does not list sports markets, and Chairman Thomas Peterffy has said the platform was built around areas like economic and climate contracts, including use cases for institutional clients. While questions like are prediction markets legal in the US often depend on the types of contracts offered, keeping away from the state-level legal fights surrounding sports event contracts keeps IBKR on stable ground. However, it also makes the platform a poor fit for users who mainly want game outcomes, props, or sports-style trading.

Responsible Risk Management

IBKR Prediction Markets contracts are fully funded, which means your maximum loss is limited to the contract cost, plus commission, with no separate debit or margin call if the position loses. Even so, this is not zero-risk trading. IBKR does not offer Prediction Markets-specific deposit limits or loss limits, so responsible risk management starts with setting personal boundaries before placing an order. WSN encourages every trader to treat those limits as part of the trade, not something to think about after the fact.

How We Rate Prediction Markets

For each prediction market review, we fund an account with $1,000 of our own capital. That lets us judge the parts you only notice after signing up, including funding speed, order placement, fees, withdrawals, and support.

For this IBKR review, we funded the account by ACH and traded Elections, Economic Indicators, and Financial Markets over 16 days in June 2026. We timed the review around a CPI release and an FOMC rate decision to see how the platform handled higher-interest macro events.

We checked deposit and withdrawal timing, commission accuracy, category navigation during active market periods, and support through phone and live chat. We also compared liquidity and contract pricing for the same events in Kalshi’s standalone app to ensure that IBKR accurately reflected the underlying exchange markets.

The full scoring system, including category weights, is explained on our Rating Criteria page.

Why You Should Trust Us

Our background in prediction markets goes back further than most outlets covering this space, and it spans both directions: traditional financial derivatives and the newer generation of event-contract platforms. In addition to compiling a detailed betting guide for prediction markets and breaking down core prediction market trading strategies, our hands-on experience is what lets us put something like IBKR's commission structure in context—not just quoting the schedule, but telling you whether it holds up against the competition.

WSN doesn't accept paid placements disguised as editorial, and we don't soften assessments for platforms that advertise with us. The score you see is the score the platform earned.
