This has not been Gonzaga’s best season based on the standards that Mark Few has set for the program. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs are a lock to make the NCAA Tournament, taking away some of the pressure on Monday’s game. Meanwhile, the Dons need to win the West Coast Tournament to reach the Big Dance, making this a must-win game for San Francisco.
Unfortunately for the Dons, they lost three of their last four games heading into the West Coast Conference Tournament. They also went 0-4 straight-up and 2-2 against the spread this season against Gonzaga and St. Mary’s, the two powerhouse programs in the WCC. That includes an 86-68 home loss at the hands of Gonzaga less than two weeks ago.
That win over San Francisco was part of Gonzaga’s current eight-game winning streak. The Bulldogs also have road wins over Kentucky and St. Mary’s during that winning streak. Despite some disappointing results early in the season, Gonzaga appears to be peaking at the right time of the year. The Bulldogs are also 5-3 against the spread during their current winning streak.
If the Dons play their best game, they’re capable of giving Gonzaga a good game and pulling off the upset. However, given San Francisco’s recent struggles and how good the Bulldogs have been down the stretch, this game could just as easily be decided by double digits. We’re backing Gonzaga to win and cover.
