#4 North Carolina enters today’s matchup as a heavy favorite, thanks to the Seminoles losing nine over their final 16 games. However, FSU has won back-to-back games against Miami and Virginia Tech. The program is famous for upsets of the ACC’s blue blood programs, so counting them out would be a mistake.
That being said, North Carolina is undoubtedly one of the best teams in the country. They won their final six games of the season, including a road win over rival Duke. They finished the season with a 17-3 conference record, landing them the regular season title. The Tar Heels' success has come from their balance, leading the conference in points (81.6 PPG) and rebounds (40.9 RPG) while ranking second in points differential (+11.5), third in blocks (4.3 BPG), and fifth in opponent scoring (70.1 PPG).
Florida State did not fare well in the ACC, finishing with a 10-10 record. They were beaten by most of the conference’s top teams, but they got some impressive wins. They were able to bear UNLV (neutral court), Colorado (neutral court), and Wake Forest (home). Today, FSU’s biggest concern is its defense. They are fourteenth in the conference in opponent scoring, allowing 75.8 PPG this season.
North Carolina won both matchups against FSU this season, though both were by less than nine points.
