Bundesliga Top Scorer Predictions and Picks

Robert Lewandowski will probably finish as the Bundesliga’s top scorer even if he does not find the back of the net again between now and the end of the campaign. The Bayern Munich striker seems to be getting better with age, and he is the heavy favorite to finish first in the goals ranking ahead of Andre Silva and Erling Haaland.

With odds of -10000 available on Lewandowski, it hardly seems worth putting any money on him winning the prize as a standalone bet. Instead, you should take a look at our other Bundesliga futures articles and include Lewandowski as top scorer alongside a selection from another category to make a combination bet. That way, you will get a better return.

Alternatively, why not have a small flutter on Haaland or Silva overtaking the Pole? It is a low-risk, high-reward situation.

Evergreen Robert Lewandowski Is Still the Man to Beat

Even by his high standards, this has been an extraordinary season for Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international, who would almost certainly have won the Ballon d’Or last year had the award not been prematurely canceled by France Football, continues to show that age is just a number. Lewandowski turns 33 later this year, but he is still one of the most reliable goalscorers in European soccer.

In 22 Bundesliga appearances so far this term, the Bayern Munich frontman has scored 28 goals. It is a scarcely believable tally and one that gives him a sensational ratio of 1.27 goals per game. Most strikers are happy with a ratio of 0.5 per match, which goes to show just how brilliant Lewandowski has been.

Bayern have been far from perfect in the Bundesliga this season. Their lead at the top of the table stands at just two points, with RB Leipzig very much in the title race as the business end of the campaign approaches. Without Lewandowski, the reigning champions might well be second or lower right now. He has come to his side’s rescue on numerous occasions, most memorably when he scored all of his team’s goals in a 4-3 victory over Hertha Berlin back in October.

Perhaps the only thing that could prevent Lewandowski from finishing as a top scorer is injury. If the Pole was to be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, Silva and Haaland would have an outside chance of catching him. But even if he does not play another match, Lewandowski has probably done enough to scoop the prize – as demonstrated by odds as short as -10000 with BetMGM.

Erling Haaland Has the Talent to Go on a Scoring Spree

Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are widely considered the two outstanding young players in world soccer right now. They are both attacking players, but their styles are actually rather different. Mbappe is perhaps a more rounded forward, but Haaland arguably has the edge when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net. His aptitude for goalscoring is why the bookmakers are not fully ruling him out of the race to finish as the Bundesliga’s top scorer this season.

Haaland has scored 17 goals in 18 league outings so far in 2020/21. That is an incredibly impressive return, particularly when you consider he is still just 20 years old. Moreover, it should be remembered that Borussia Dortmund have struggled for much of the campaign, and are currently not even in the Champions League qualification spots. Like Lewandowski at Bayern, Dortmund would be much worse off without their leading center-forward.

Haaland is the type of striker who is capable of notching a glut of goals in a relatively short period of time. That is why, despite having 11 fewer strikes to his name than Lewandowski, it would be a risk to definitively rule him out of the race to be crowned top scorer.

However, it would take a phenomenal effort for Haaland to overtake the Bayern Munich frontman from here. Even if Lewandowski scores just four more times, the Norwegian would need to grab 16 more goals in the final 11 games of the campaign to move ahead of him. Despite his undoubted talent, Haaland is unlikely to do that.

Editor’s Picks

Andre Silva Has Been Even More Effective in His Second Season

Silva’s big move to AC Milan in 2017 did not go to plan. Having starred for Porto the previous campaign, the striker was bought by the Italian giants for €38 million. He was immediately given the No.9 shirt, and Milan fans were extremely excited to see him in action. Unfortunately, though, Silva did not live up to expectations, scoring just 10 goals in 41 outings for the club.

After a loan spell at Sevilla, the Portuguese moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on a temporary basis in 2019. He responded with 16 goals in 37 matches in all competitions, prompting the German side to sign him permanently last summer.

Silva has been even more effective in his second season in the Bundesliga; at the time of writing, he has 19 goals to his name in just 21 appearances. Only Lewandowski has found the back of the net more often than the 25-year-old, who is currently averaging nine goals every 10 games.

However, like Haaland, Silva has probably given himself too much to do. Given his excellent scoring ratio, it is hard to blame him for failing to keep pace with Lewandowski, who is on course to better his tally of 34 Bundesliga goals from last season. The Pole could even break Gerd Muller’s all-time record of 40, set by the legendary German striker in 1971/72. As far as goalscorers go, Lewandowksi is still the Bundesliga’s best.
