Mariners vs. Blue Jays - Bryce Miller vs. Kevin Gausman (6:08 PM, EST)

The Blue Jays' bats have exploded in Seattle while the Mariners have slowed down. I expect both bats to be tamed on Friday in the ALCS. 

Friday is a swing game with the winning team gaining the edge in the series. Kevin Gausman will take the mound for Toronto, and he’s once again proven to be one of the most reliable first-inning arms in the American League.

Gausman’s ability to establish his fastball and splitter combination early has kept hitters off balance all year. He doesn’t walk many batters because he’s consistently attacking the zone. 

Opposing hitters have a tough time generating any momentum. When Gausman is feeling his pitches, he is nearly untouchable until the second time through the order. 

Bryce Miller has been one of Seattle’s most effective young starters. His fastball is strong, and it shut down the Blue Jays in Game 1 of this series. 

Miller tends to work quickly, which doesn’t give batters much time to think. The Blue Jays’ lineup, though powerful, has been inconsistent in the early innings of this series. 

This is why Miller had such an effective outing in Game 1. If he does this again, the first inning should be clean.

Brewers vs. Dodgers - TBD vs. Shohei Ohtani (8:35 PM, EST)

Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound for Los Angeles in Game 4, and his presence alone is intimidating. 

Ohtani has been a short-burst pitcher, and he is hard to beat in the first inning. His command has been crisp, and it’s very frustrating for opposing batters. 

When Ohtani finds his rhythm in the first few pitches, opponents usually struggle to generate solid contact. If Ohtani induces soft contact, the NRFI should easily hit. 

The Brewers haven’t named a starter, but they have plenty of options to utilize in a must-win Game 4. Milwaukee wants to avoid a sweep, so its starters should be ready to shine.

Whether it’s a steady veteran or a reliable young arm, Milwaukee pitchers have set the tone early in games by limiting walks and inducing weak contact.

Defensively, both teams are among the most fundamentally sound in the league. Mookie Betts leads the Dodgers’ infield, and he is a player who doesn’t make many errors. 

The pitching and defense in this game make the NRFI bet a very valuable betting option.
