Best NRFI Bets Today: Jeffrey Springs and Nolan McLean Takes the Hill

There is a limited slate of games on Thursday, but the pitching matchups are tremendous. Jeffrey Springs headlines the day as the best pitcher, but there are other talented arms throwing like Rhett Lowder and Eduardo Rodriguez.

Mets vs. Diamondbacks - Nolan McLean vs. Eduardo Rodríguez (7:10 PM EST)

The New York Mets take on the Arizona Diamondbacks with Nolan McLean facing Eduardo Rodríguez.

McLean brings intriguing upside into this matchup with a power arsenal that can create problems right away. He has been fantastic this season with a 1-0 record, 2.61 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP.

He pitched well in the World Baseball Classic and carried this success into the season. Rodriguez did the same as well, and he has been dominant thus far in two starts.

Rodríguez offers a steady veteran presence. He relies on mixing pitches and locating effectively, which allows him to keep hitters guessing. He has pitched against many of the top batters in the game, which gives him an edge over the star hitters in the Mets’ lineup.

When he’s commanding the zone, he’s capable of limiting hard contact and working efficiently through lineups the first time around.

Athletics vs. Yankees - Jeffrey Springs vs. Ryan Weathers (7:15 PM EST)

The Oakland Athletics face the New York Yankees in a matchup featuring Jeffrey Springs and Ryan Weathers. There isn’t enough positive things to say about Springs. 

Springs has shown the ability to miss bats and keep hitters off balance with a deceptive mix of pitches. His approach can be particularly effective early in games, where hitters are still adjusting to movement and sequencing.

He isn’t pitching in a big market, but he is truely one on the best wings in the sport. He is 1-0 with a 2.38 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP.

The Yankees have struggled offensively in this series, and Springs will be their toughest test of the week.

Weathers brings a different profile, relying more on pitch mix and command rather than overpowering velocity. This has resulted in him allowing hard contact.

Nevertheless, the Athletics don’t have many power bats to end this bet on a single swing. Therefore, I will take the NRFI in the Bronx.

Reds vs. Marlins - Rhett Lowder vs. Max Meyer (12:10 PM EST)

Rhett Lowder enters with a polished profile for a young arm, showing strong command and an ability to keep hitters off balance. He is off to a great start with a 1-0 record and a 1.64 ERA.

He also has a 0.91 WHIP, so he has kept hitters off the base paths. I expect Lowder to shove in this matchup.

Max Meyer brings more swing-and-miss potential, with a sharp breaking ball that can generate strikeouts in key moments. That ability to miss bats is especially valuable in NRFI situations, where escaping even a small jam is crucial.
