The Thursday slate features several strong pitching matchups, making it a great day for NRFI betting. Zac Gallen will take the mound for the Diamondbacks, and that matchup is my favorite NRFI play on the board.

Pirates vs. Diamondbacks - Mitch Keller vs. Zac Gallen (3:40 PM EST)

The Pittsburgh Pirates have managed to stay competitive in the NL Central this season. They enter Thursday at 20-17 and continue to rely on a talented young core. Pittsburgh will wrap up its series in Arizona on Thursday afternoon.

Under 0.5 Run (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

Gallen hasn’t been at his best this season, but he’s still capable of dominant outings. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.

He has allowed 39 hits in 32.1 innings while recording just 20 strikeouts. Even so, I expect Gallen to return to form soon, especially pitching at home where he’s historically been comfortable.

Mitch Keller has been the more consistent pitcher in this matchup. He enters at 3-1 with a 2.85 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.

Arizona’s offense has been inconsistent throughout the season, and I expect another slow start against Keller and the Pirates.

Cardinals vs. Padres - Matthew Liberatore vs. Michael King (10:10 PM EST)

The Cardinals have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season. St. Louis is 21-15 with an impressive 11-5 record on the road. The Padres own a nearly identical record, setting up what should be a competitive series opener.

Michael King is the pitcher expected to set the tone early in this game. He is 3-2 with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.

King has allowed just 27 hits in 39.2 innings while striking out 39 batters. Averaging nearly one strikeout per inning is a huge advantage against the top of the Cardinals lineup.

Jordan Walker has been outstanding for St. Louis, batting .303 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI. King’s ability to generate strikeouts will be critical against the Cardinals’ early power threats.

Matthew Liberatore is more of a question mark in this matchup. He is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

Liberatore has allowed 41 hits in 36 innings, but I still expect him to navigate the first inning successfully.

Rays vs Red Sox - Griffin Jax vs Jake Bennett (7:00 PM EST)

The Boston Red Sox are coming off a sweep of the Detroit Tigers. Boston is firmly in the playoff race, and a strong series at home against Tampa Bay would help the team continue climbing the standings.

Jake Bennett has looked excellent in his brief MLB stint. In his most recent start, he earned the win and lowered his ERA to 1.80 while posting a 1.40 WHIP.

Boston’s pitching staff has struggled overall this season, but Bennett has provided some much-needed stability in the rotation. In his last outing, he allowed five hits across five innings while striking out three batters.

Bennett will face Griffin Jax, who is 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Despite the inflated numbers, Jax has averaged nearly one strikeout per inning, which could help him work out of trouble early.

Both offenses have been inconsistent lately, giving the pitchers the edge in the first inning.

Mets vs. Rockies - Christian Scott vs. Jose Quintana: The Mets and Rockies will wrap up their series in Colorado on Thursday. Both starting pitchers enter the matchup with ERAs above 4.00, and the game being played at Coors Field adds even more scoring potential because of the altitude.
