The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the first game of a three-game series. These teams faced each other last week in a four-game series in Milwaukee; they split the series 2-2, with the Dodgers winning the final game.
The Dodgers are baseball’s best team and win 70% of their games. Their 84-36 record gives them an 18-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West and the largest divisional lead in baseball.
The Brewers are in the Wild Card hunt with their 64-56 record. They are 1.5 games away from the third Wild Card spot and five games out of first place in the NL Central. They are playing on the road against the toughest team in the league, so they should be happy if they win two of three games in this series.
Both of these teams are coming off victories on Sunday. The Dodgers crushed the Miami Marlins 10-3, while the Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2. Rookie Ryan Pepiot got the start fot the Dodgers. It was only his seventh start of the season, but he threw a convincing six innings while only giving up two earned runs on four hits. On the offensive side, Los Angeles started the scoring early. Will Smith hit an RBI single in the first inning to make it 1-0. Cody Bellinger pushed the lead to three with a two-run home run in the second inning. Los Angeles scored three more runs in the third and fourth innings and were winning 6-2 going into the fifth. Four runs later (and one Miami run later), it was 10-3, and the Dodgers had a convincing win to sweep the Marlins.
The Brewers had a come-from-behind win yesterday. They were down 2-0 going into the seventh inning until Rowdy Tellez crushed a solo home run to right field. Keston Huira followed that up with another solo home run, this time to left field. Milwaukee did not stop there; Willy Adames gave them the lead when he hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Keston Huira hit another home run (this time a two-run home run) in the ninth to push the lead to three. Taylor Rogers finished the game off with his 29th save of the season.
I am not feeling too dangerous today, so I will pick the Dodgers to win. Los Angeles has home-field advantage, is sending a better starter to the mound, and has a better bullpen and better lineup.
The Dodgers have a top lineup in baseball, but I want to talk more about their pitching. They are sending 2021 NL wins leader Julio Urias to the mound. Urias has a 13-6 record, 2.40 ERA, and a WHIP of 0.98. He does not throw a ton of strikeouts, but he has solid control and has only walked 26 batters in over 127 innings.
The Brewers are putting Eric Lauer on the mound. Lauer performs very well at home but struggles on the road. He has a winning record of 4-3, but his ERA is 4.48. He pitched against the Dodgers in his start and only gave up two runs in seven innings, but that was in Milwaukee. He will have a very difficult time replicating that performance at Dodger Stadium.
Play it safe, and bet on the Dodgers’ moneyline.
The over/under for this game comes in at eight runs. I hate to do this, but I am not going to recommend betting on the over or under. I expect the Dodgers to win 5-3, which would be a push.
The Dodgers have solid pitching, but they will give up a few runs to Milwaukees’ hot hitters. On the other side, I expect Milwaukee’s pitchers to struggle a little bit and give up runs. Unfortunately, this all leads to a push.

There are a few players I would watch out for in this game. For the Brewers, I would look out for Keston Huira. Huira is coming off a two home run, three RBI game yesterday. For the Dodgers, I would watch out for Trea Turner, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Will Smith, and Max Muncy. All six of these players have power and combined for 122 home runs. They are facing Eric Lauer, a pitcher known for giving up home runs. Lauer has given up 24 home runs in 22 starts this season. I would not be surprised if the Dodgers light him up for two or three home runs.
Bet on the Dodgers’ moneyline and Dodgers to cover the spread.
