Home Run Picks for Monday, August 10

There are some fantastic home run props out there today, but some stand above the rest. Below are the players we’re locked in on. 

Shohei Ohtani Anytime Home Run (+215) at FanDuel Sportsbook

While Ohtani isn’t putting up the same power numbers we’ve seen from him in recent years, he’s still a solid home run target most days. He ended July and opened August on a hot streak, helping account for four home runs in his last 11 games. Ohtani is also 2 for 2 with a home run in his career against Kansas City’s Noah Cameron, who starts against the Dodgers on Monday.

Obviously, that’s a small sample size, but it’s no accident. Ohtani has better offensive numbers against left-handed pitchers, slugging .576 against southpaws as opposed to .524 against righties. Likewise, Cameron is more vulnerable power-wise against left-handed hitters, who are slugging .452 against him, making this a favorable matchup for Ohtani.

Tyler Soderstrom Anytime Home Run (+350) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Soderstrom is another left-handed hitter with a favorable matchup on Monday. The A’s are facing Freddy Peralta, who is not the Peralta of old. His first start with the Rays was arguably his worst of the season. Peralta has given up at least one home run in five of his last six starts, totaling 19 on the season, with left-handed hitters responsible for 15 of them.

In his career, Soderstrom is a modest 2 for 6 against Peralta. But he also enters Monday’s game on an eight-game hitting streak. During that stretch, Soderstrom has six extra-base hits, including two home runs. His power is coming alive, and facing Peralta plays into that.

Wilyer Abreu Anytime Home Run (+300) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Jameson Taillon is set to make his debut with the Blue Jays on Monday. But a new team isn’t likely to fix his problems with the long ball. Taillon has the worst home run rate of any qualifying starting pitcher, giving up 26 home runs in just 80 innings of work. Only three times in 16 starts has he not allowed a home run, yielding multiple home runs in eight of those starts.

Needless to say, we had to target someone on the Red Sox. Taillon has had a little more trouble with left-handed hitters, who are slugging .570 against him. With Jarren Duran being 0 for 14 in his career against Taillon, we landed on Abreu. With four home runs and four multi-hit games in his last six games, Abreu is raging hot at the moment and poised to take advantage of Taillon’s trouble with the long ball.

Francisco Lindor Anytime Home Run (+390) at FanDuel Sportsbook

This has not been Lindor’s year, but he’s worth a chance on Monday, as both he and the Mets are heating up. The Mets were shut out on Saturday, but are still averaging seven runs per game in their last six games. Lindor has been a part of that, going 5 for 15 with a home run over his last four games.

Equally important, Lindor has a great track record against Bryce Elder, who starts against the Mets on Monday. He’s 6 for 13 with two doubles and two home runs against Elder. Despite throwing seven scoreless innings against the Marlins in his last start, Elder has allowed at least one home run in nine of his last 10 starts, putting Lindor in a good spot to keep up his hot streak.
