The New York Yankees will face the Boston Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series. The Yankees are the second-best team in the American League and fourth-best in the MLB, but they have been struggling lately. They lost 3-2 in ten innings last night for their third loss in a row and eighth loss in nine games. This Yankees team is still one of the best in the league; they are just going through a slump.
On the other side, the Red Sox are having a disappointing season but have won their last two games. They now sit at 56-58 and are four games out of the third Wild Card spot. I do not expect them to make the Playoffs this season (especially with the emergence of the new-look Baltimore Orioles), but if they start stringing together wins now, they can swipe a Wild Card spot.
According to DraftKings, the Yankees have the moneyline edge at -145. Even though they are going through their toughest stretch of the season right now, they are still expected to pull out a victory. I would go with the safe bet and pick the Yankees on the moneyline. Their hitting has been struggling mightily lately (they are only averaging two runs per game over their last three), but they are bringing an impressive pitcher to the mound in Frankie Montas. Montas was traded to the Yankees at the Trade Deadline and had a poor first start for New York, giving up six earned runs in three innings, but I expect him to turn it around this game. He will be the main reason the Yankees win and end their three-game skid.
The Red Sox will put Kutter Crawford on the mound. The 26-year-old from Okeechobee, Florida, started the season as a reliever but was promoted to starter. He has a 3-4 record with a 4.30 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He is a decent pitcher but not nearly as dominant as Frankie Montas.
If you combine Frankie Montas’ superior pitching with the bats of Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and Anthony Rizzo, you can see why the Yankees will win the game.
The over/under for this matchup is placed at nine runs. I see the Yankees winning 6-4, so I would pick the over.
The over is the better bet for a couple of reasons. The main reason is the Yankees and Red Sox both have great lineups and are both averaging well over four runs a game. I am also confident this game will go above nine runs because of the Red Sox’ pitching. Kutter Crawford is not the Red Sox best starter, but Boston also do not have a great bullpen. In fact, they have one of the worst. The Red Sox’ relievers have an average ERA of 4.41 and a WHIP of 1.32. I would not be surprised if they give up a few runs to the Yankees’ heavy hitters.
The Yankees and Red Sox also know how to hit home runs, propelling them to above nine runs. In conclusion, pick the over.

I will always recommend watching a Yankees-Red Sox game. These two teams have such a historical and intense rivalry, so something interesting is always bound to happen. This game is no exception to that rule. These teams seem to trade off wins when they play each other, and the pitching duel tonight will present for an interesting situation.
Frankie Montas is a great pitcher and a great pickup for the Yankees, but this only his second start for them. I expect him to pitch well, but there is a chance he does not find his bearings and gives the Red Sox a chance to win the game. On the other side, Kutter Crawford has proven to be a mediocre starter. He has had some impressive starts, but he has also had a few tough ones. It is very difficult to say how he will pitch tonight, but I do not expect it to be a dominant outing.
Regardless of the pitching duel, the bats will be out tonight. The Yankees are still without Giancarlo Stanton, but they have all the other sluggers, and the Red Sox will bring most of their big boys out tonight, so there should be at least a few runs.
Bet on the Yankees’ moneyline, Yankees to cover the spread, and on the over.
