Charlotte vs. Columbus Prediction
Charlotte FC
Suffering a tough result in Nashville, the Crowns did show some fight throughout the match. Brecht Dejaegere became the third different goal scorer on Charlotte’s roster, halving the deficit before halftime. Coming on as a substitute in the 26th minute, the 32-year-old finished the match with two shots towards the target in the losing cause. Replacing Kerwin Vargas due to an awkward challenge and with unknown severity of his injury, Dejaegere will be counted on to fill the void.
Up top there would be no better time for Patrick Agyemang to find the scoresheet. The Crowns youth academy product has failed to find the back of the net in 129 minutes of action. The 23-year-old made his first starting-11 appearance of the campaign against Nashville showcased for all 90 minutes of play. The Ghanaian striker finished the match with two shots towards the target.
Columbus Crew
The Crew are off to a solid title defense, currently occupying the second spot in the Eastern Conference table. Dating back to last year, this club hasn’t lost a match in there last 10 games in all competitions. Through four MLS contests, Columbus owns the third highest goals for average in the East, averaging 1.8 goals scored per match.
Thanks to last year’s MLS Cup MVP, Juan Hernández or known simply as Cucho Hernández is putting up concrete numbers once again. The 24-year-old will be the one to keep an eye on, through 359 minutes played he’s put it past the keeper on three occasions and has added one assist. The Columbian Wizard is a menace around the opposition's back line, averaging 5.77 shots per 90 minutes.

Charlotte vs. Columbus - My pick
All signs point towards wagering on the 2023 MLS Cup Champions in this meeting, that said this battle should be closer than expected. This will only be the Crews second road appearance in MLS play. Their lone away fixture was a one-all draw with Minnesota United. Dating back to last year the numbers on the road, though the Crew had the fifth-best away record in the East, they still were a manageable side to deal with. In 17 road matches they only managed to snatch four victories while conceding an average of 1.89 goals allowed per match.
On the other hand for Charlotte, they return to home where the club saves its best performances for the home faithful. In 2023 CLTFC only finished three matches were they walked away with zero points after 90 minutes. The Crowns were a robust defensive side at home too, only conceding 21 times throughout the year. This year in their single home fixture, they acquired a 1-0 victory over New York City FC.
CLTFC have what it takes to not lose at home. With their current record a bit misleading due to playing more away fixtures rather than at home, feel like Charlotte could pull off the upset and grab maximum points or at the very least split the points.
