Charlotte FC vs. Minnesota United Prediction: Will Charlotte Remain Unbeaten Again at Home?

Sunday afternoon will see Charlotte FC host Minnesota United at Bank of America Stadium. Heading into this clash both clubs are each sitting in seventh place in their respective conferences with 11 points. This will be the first-ever encounter between these two sides which should make for an interesting matchup.

Charlotte FC remarkably kept their 2-game unbeaten streak intact last weekend in a barnburner of a match winning 3-2 against Toronto FC. Marquee signing Liel Abada punched in his first career MLS goal in the 70th minute, while in the 85th minute, fresh off the bench Patrick Agyemang secured the late-game winner to give the Crowns all three points, extending their unbeaten run at home to 16 matches.

Meanwhile for Minnesota United, after a positive start to the 2024 campaign, they now find themselves winless in their last three games. Last weekend the Loons are coming off a frustrating match that saw them lose at home to the Houston Dynamo 2-1. MNUFC conceded an own goal and saw their chances of grabbing a result slip away relinquishing a late game-winner in the 77th minute.

Here, we will break down the betting odds and share our favorite picks for Charlotte FC vs. Minnesota United.

Charlotte FC Preview

After lethargic performances up on attack, Charlotte FC was finally able to make some noise in the goal of the opposition. For the first time this year, they accomplished hitting the score sheet on more than two occasions. With last weekend's offensive outburst, the Crowns inched up the ranking charts for goals scored per game average sitting in 22nd place just shy of averaging over a goal per game.

Kerwin Vargas put in a man-of-the-match performance last weekend finally hitting the tally sheet. It took the 22-year-old over 550 minutes of playing time to get his first of the campaign featuring in the starting eleven, eight times. In addition to bagging a marker, Vargas finished with four shots with two hitting the target.

Minnesota United Preview

Minnesota will look to halt Charlotte’s home unbeaten run and regroup as a squad on Sunday. The Loons are hoping to recapture their promising play from the opening start of the campaign reeling off three wins in four matches. MNUFC have performed better in their away contests in 2024, collecting six out of a possible nine points.

Enjoying a personal start to the season, central midfielder Robin Lod is off to a dashing start. In six matches played, his presence has been felt upfront registering two goals and three assists. Last weekend the 30-year-old amassed an assist, calculated three shots towards the net, and finished the match with the most duels won with 10.

Charlotte FC vs. Minnesota - My Pick

Charlotte’s marvelous form at home won’t run forever, but they are in a decent spot to extend their unbeaten streak at Bank of America to 17 games. The Crowns have kept 5 clean sheets in their past 11 home matches thanks to their gritty defense. It will be difficult for the Loons to breach one past the keeper in this situation. Home sides in MLS usually own the edge when on paper it’s laid out to be a closely contested battle. CLTFC meetings at home against the MLS elites like Columbus and Cincinnati have demonstrated they hang with anyone when they’re backed by their hardcore jubilant fans.
