NBA Player Props and Best Bets for Tuesday 4/2/24

Kelly Olynyk Over 5.5 Assists (+122) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Olynyk’s development as a playmaker later in his career has been interesting to track. At 32, he recently played like a store-brand Nikola Jokic, racking up 38 assists (9.5 per game) over his last four outings. He didn’t go over his total in four games before that but averaged 5.7 for the month and has a larger role with injuries to Jakob Poeltl, Scottie Barnes, Gary Trent Jr., and many others.

The Toronto Raptors are horrid and lost 13 straight games, but luckily, the final score doesn’t matter. All that matters is Olynyk getting to his assists total, and he’s facing a Los Angeles Lakers squad that has allowed the most assists per game (30.3) to opponents since the All-Star break.

Donte DiVincenzo Under 3.5 Threes (+126) at FanDuel Sportsbook

DiVincenzo has the greenest of green lights in the NBA and took 12.2 threes per game in March, making 4.5 per game (36.8 percent). He also beat this total in five straight games, highlighted by an 11-20 explosion against the Detroit Pistons on March 25. So why are we looking at his under on Tuesday? 

DiVincenzo and the New York Knicks are heading on the road to take on the Miami Heat, who have been nothing short of lights out on defense as of late. The reigning Eastern Conference champions held their post-All-Star opponents to a league-best 34 percent from beyond the arc while allowing the second-fewest points per 100 possessions during that span. These teams also rank 23rd and 30th in post-All-Star pace and will have fewer shooting opportunities.

Amen Thompson Over 8.5 Rebounds (-138) FanDuel Sportsbook

Bow your heads and say “Amen!” The 21-year-old rookie has been instrumental in the Houston Rockets’ late surge for the postseason, averaging 8.2 boards in 26.4 minutes per night in March and cashing the over in four straight games, all wins, prior to only grabbing seven against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

Thompson is a 6-foot-7 wing with tremendous athleticism and instincts. His increase in playing time is a reflection of the growing trust coach Ime Udoka has in him and is reason to believe he can scrape his way to nine boards on Tuesday. Houston is also facing the Minnesota Timberwolves who, despite their reputation, rank 28th in rebound rate over the last 10 games.

Daniel Gafford Under 10.5 Points (-115) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Gafford and rookie Dereck Lively II have given the Dallas Mavericks tremendous production at the center position and both perfectly complement the talents of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. That said, the 25-year-old mid-season acquisition often loses playing time to his 19-year-old teammate and isn’t going out of his way to thrive as a scorer. 

Gafford only scored six points in each of his last two games and went under in three straight. He also played 24 minutes or fewer during his three most recent games, which is a slight tick down from what he averaged for most of March. He also scored 10 points the last time he met the Golden State Warriors, and all signs point to him finishing under his total again.

Taylor Hendricks Over 1.5 Threes (+124) at FanDuel Sportsbook

Hendricks was the ninth pick in the summer draft and added yet another long, tall piece to an already-enormous Utah Jazz roster. He had the opportunity to increase his minutes as the season progressed because of injuries and changing circumstances and took full advantage, averaging 27.3 minutes in March and 30.4 over his last five games.

Hendricks sank four of six threes in his last game and hit the over in three straight games, as well as six of his last nine. He isn’t necessarily a volume shooter, but he’s consistent with his attempts, enjoying an expanded workload, and facing a Cleveland Cavaliers team that has not been sound defending the three recently (38.3 percent allowed since the All-Star break - 27th).
