Indiana vs. Ohio Picks, Predictions and Odds: Are the Hoosiers for Real or Ready to Be Humbled

  • The winner will likely face Oregon in the conference championship game

  • Indiana had a bye week last week

  • This is the first time Indiana will play a ranked opponent

One of the best games that nobody saw coming is just hours away from kicking off as the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to welcome the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers into Ohio Stadium on Saturday.

Indiana, built with a bunch of unheralded transfers and a new coach from JMU, is 10-0 (7-0) and looking at a potential first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers are yet to sway their critics, however, as they have not beaten a single ranked team.

Meanwhile, Ohio State’s only loss this season came in a one-point defeat against Oregon. However, a second loss could potentially send them spiraling out of the CFP, depending on how Oregon, Indiana, and Penn State finish their seasons.

The stakes couldn’t be higher, and we’re here to share the best betting picks for the Indiana vs. Ohio State showdown.

Indiana vs. Ohio State Predictions Odds

Indiana vs. Ohio State Predictions

According to EPA per play, Indiana has the third-most efficient offense in the entire country. Former Ohio QB Kurtis Rourke transformed himself from a four-year player in the MAC to a legitimate Heisman contender, ranking second in the nation in QBR and racking up 23 total touchdowns to four interceptions.

While the Hoosiers haven’t beaten a ranked opponent, they dismantled Nebraska (56-7) and Michigan State (47-10) and took down a physical Michigan squad 20-15 their last time on the field. They also got to take last weekend off and will be well-rested heading into Saturday.

IU’s defense isn’t necessarily the talking point of the team, but it holds opponents to the fourth-fewest yards per play (4.2) and seventh-fewest yards per game (15). This is going to be the toughest opponent they faced by far, but they’re extremely well-coached and have been dominant statistically.

On the other side, Ohio State is one of the most balanced teams in the country thanks to their incredible personnel. Their def running back committee of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson allows them to fluctuate between running the ball extremely efficiently and taking deep shots down the field to their outstanding receivers.

The Buckeyes’ pass-rush is going to need to step up and get after Rourke in this game. While they’ve proven their ability to get quarterbacks on the ground, they also did not register a sack against Oregon and only had two against Penn State, the two ranked teams they played.

Ryan Day catches a lot of flack for his job at OSU, but he rarely loses games to teams that aren’t at or near the top of the national rankings. Granted, that’s where Indiana is now, but they do not have a history of excellence and still haven’t even faced, much less beaten, a top-25 team.

Indiana vs. Ohio: My Pick

This is one of the toughest matchups of the entire year to predict. Indiana has been nothing short of excellent, but they did it against a strength of schedule ranked just 62nd in the country.

Ohio State hasn’t played the toughest schedule in the world either, but they went blow-for-blow with both Oregon and Penn State. We ultimately expect the Buckeyes to win but think that Indiana will be as annoying as they possibly can be throughout.
