Playing for the first time since Monday, February 26, the Tar Heels escaped with a home victory over fellow ACC squad, the Miami Hurricanes. They won 75-71 but were outscored in the second half 39-38. In that game, RJ Davis scored 42 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes. Armando Bacot added five points and 12 rebounds across 33 minutes.

This win marked the Tar Heels’ third straight, with their last loss coming on the road against the Syracuse Orange.

As for NC State, they’re 17-11 on the year and 4-5 on the road. They’re also 4-6 over their last ten games.

Below, we’ll review this matchup in further detail.

UNC vs Syracuse Prediction

On March 2, the Tar Heels and Wolfpack will play for the second time this season. They last played on NC State’s homecourt on January 10, and the Tar Heels came away with a 67-54 win.

Here, the Tar Heels are at home and are 10.5-point favorites.

On January 10, Davis had 16 points, while Bacot had nine points and five rebounds. A total of nine Tar Heels players scored in that game.

Teams Spread Moneyline Total
North Carolina State Wolfpack +10.5 (-110) +440 Over 153.5 (-110)

With just a few games before the ACC Tournament, the Tar Heels are considered the favorite. They have three games: the Wolfpack, Notre Dame, and Duke.

The Tar Heels had a narrow win over Miami (FL), but they’ve either scored plenty of points or handled their opponents by double digits. Since their loss to Syracuse, North Carolina scored 96 on Virginia Tech, beat the Virginia Cavaliers by ten, and scored 75 on the Hurricanes.

This doesn’t bode well for NC State, as they’ve allowed 82.3 points per game over their last three and 72.1 on the season.

While they’re allowing those points, the Wolfpack also score fairly well, averaging 76.2 points per game this season and 82.3 over their last three.

The Wolfpack will need DJ Burns to step up here after scoring zero points in 12 minutes against Florida State in their 90-83 loss. He scored double-digit points in five straight games before that.

If the Wolfpack can get both DJs, Burns and Horne going, we could see a high-scoring affair, especially with Davis coming off a 40+ point performance.

Horne is a far more consistent player for the Wolfpack, averaging over 17 points per game.

UNC vs NC State Prediction and Betting Pick

While the Tar Heels will win this game, this heated rivalry will be just that—heated with points being scored in bunches. Horne and Burns will bring their A-game, as will Bacot and Davis. The Tar Heels won easily on the road in January, but if the Wolfpack want a chance at making the NCAA Tournament, they must strike now and perform in the ACC Tournament.

Look for the Wolfpack to allow their fair share of points and score.

Take the Wolfpack +10.5.
