Originally slated for last week’s UFC on ABC fight card, Mackenzie Dern vs Angela Hill was pushed one week and slotted in as the main event for this week’s Fight Night event.

Both women sit within the top-15 rankings of the women’s strawweight division but both are in need of a win as Dern and Hill have equally struggled over their past several fights.

Dern, a world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu grappler, is just 2-2 over her last four fights and is coming off of a majority-decision loss against Yan Xiaonan that took place last October.

Hill, currently ranked at number-14, has won her last two fights in a row - both decisions over Emily Ducote and Lupita Godinez - but was on a three-fight losing skid prior. Hill is just 3-5 over her last eight fights.

These two women are almost physically identical when it comes to height and reach, however Dern does have an eight-year youth advantage. Dern BJJ credentials also outmatch the muay thai credentials possessed by Hill.

At -190, Mackenzie Dern is the favorite to win this grappler vs striker main event.

Having recently snapped a three-fight losing streak with his second-round TKO victory over Dalcha Lungianbula last December, Edmen Shahbazyan looks to keep his momentum going.

It won’t be easy, however, as he is set to take on Anthony Hernandez - a fighter who is currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak that includes two submission finishes. He most recently tapped out Marc-Andre Barriault last September.

Shahbazyan will stand two inches taller but Hernandez will have a one-inch reach advantage. This will be the first fight of the 2023 calendar year for both men.

Listed as -160, Anthony Hernandez stands as the biggest betting favorite on the main card.

Due to a last-minute change of opponent, Emily Ducote will now find herself facing off against Lupita Godinez in a catchweight bout set at 120-pounds.

Ducote, a strawweight fighter, was slated to face Polyana Viana but Viana was forced to withdraw due to undisclosed reasons.

Ducote recently had a four-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of main event fighter Angela Hill last December.

Lupita Godinez, a former LFA women’s strawweight champion, is 3-1 in her last four fights and is coming off of a split-decision win over Cynthia Calvillo that took place just one month ago at UFC 287.

Despite the quick turnaround, Godinez is listed as the -145 favorite.

Andre Fialho and Joaquin Buckley have a few things in common. They are both strikers with significant knockout power.  Unfortunately, they have also both lost their last two fights.

Fialho’s UFC record stands at just 2-3 since signing with the promotion last January. He has been finished in his last two fights, losing by KO at the hands of Jake Matthews and, more recently, losing via third-round TKO against Muslim Salikhov last November.

Joaquin Buckley has also hit a skid. After winning three in a row, Buckley has now dropped two straight, losing a decision to Nassourdine Imavov before getting knocked out by Chris Curtis at UFC 282 last December.

Fialho will stand four-inches taller but Buckley, who is favored at -230, will have a two-inch reach advantage.

After an impressive first-round knockout of Steve Garcia in his UFC debut, Maheshate was defeated by Rafa Garcia via unanimous decision in his most recent outing last December.

He takes on Viacheslav Borshchev, a Russian-born fighter looking to snap a two-fight losing skid. Borshchev has dropped back-to-back unanimous decisions to Marc Diakiese and Mike Davis.

The 23-year-old Maheshate is the younger fighter and will also enjoy a slight advantage in both height and reach this Saturday. Despite these facts, it is Borshchev who is listed as the -165 favorite.

Two veterans in need of a win, Carlos Diego Ferreira and Michael Johnson will kick off the main card this Saturday - likely with a bang.

Ferreira has lost his last three in a row, including back-to-back TKO losses at the hands of Gregor Gillespie and Mateusz Gamrot. Ferreira has not fought since December 2021.

Although he won his most recent fight over Marc Diakiese via unanimous decision last December, Michael Johnson is just 2-5 in his last seven fights.

Johnson, an Ultimate Fighter tournament alum, will stand one inch taller but will be at a very slight disadvantage in the reach department.

Surprisingly, after more than a year of inactivity and having lost his last three fights, Carlos Diego Ferreira is still listed as the favorite at -140.
