After winning four of their last five games to improve to 7-11 on the season, the Indiana Fever are threatening to become a respectable, competitive team in the WNBA league. However, they have yet to beat a team with a winning record.
They’ll go for their first such victory against the Storm (10-6) tonight in Seattle.
Indiana has looked good this month, winning six of nine games, with all three losses coming on the road. Seattle lost its home (and season) opener to Minnesota but has not lost in the friendly confines of Climate Pledge Arena since.
Let’s look at the betting line for the game, along with our preview and pick.
Seattle has already defeated Indiana twice this season, once at home and in Indianapolis.
The Storm were 5.5-point favorites when they faced the Fever at home on May 22; Seattle held on to win 85-83. When they met again roughly a week later in Indianapolis, the Storm was a 6.5-point favorite. But the Fever were not up to the challenge this time and lost 103-88. The final score was over the listed total (167.5) for both.

It looked like the Fever would keep the win streak alive Sunday when Indiana was in Chicago. With about six minutes to go, the team held a 12-point lead, 82-70. But then the worst thing that could happen to a defensively challenged team happened: The offense went ice-cold about midway through the fourth.
Chicago tied the game and took a late lead. However, the Fever got within a point with seconds left and had a chance to pull ahead, but they missed their last two shots.
The offense has looked its best when they have not tried to force it through Caitlin Clark. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 24 points, followed by Aliyah Boston with 18 and Clark with 17. Clark set a new franchise record with 13 assists, and she and Mitchell each hit five three-pointers.
But the defense, which played well for most of the game, proved costly. It will need to do better against a Seattle offense that has averaged 83.8 ppg at home. Indiana has allowed a league-high 88.3 ppg on the road this year.
Bet on Indiana Fever at FanDuel
The Storm’s current five-game home win streak began with a close, hard-fought 85-83 win over the Fever on May 22. That win was the first of six consecutive victories, a streak that ended with a loss to Minnesota on the road, 83-64.
Their defense was on point during that stretch, holding teams to 72.5 ppg, second only to the Connecticut Sun. As for the offense, it was the best in the league, averaging 87.3 ppg.
Since then, the offense has been slipping, averaging 80.3 ppg (ninth best), while their defense held opponents to 79 ppg (third best).
Seattle seems to have figured out how to strike a rare balance between playing well on both ends of the court. It is not uncommon for a team to excel at defense or offense, but those who are solid at both are tough to beat and tend to make deep runs into the postseason.
They will need to keep the pressure on an Indiana team that has shown a lot of fight lately if they want to keep their home win streak alive.
Bet on Seattle Storm at FanDuel
Indiana seems to have figured out a style on offense that makes the most of everyone’s abilities and is productive. So, while Seattle has a strong defense, the Fever will not go down without a fight. The question is whether they can put up enough of one to keep it close or maybe even win.
There is a common theme in Seattle’s losses, which is strong opposing offenses. Minnesota (3x), New York, and Las Vegas are the top three offenses in the league. Phoenix ranks fifth, .6 ppg behind Seatle. Indiana has not had a strong offense all season, but it ranks No. 5 in June with 82.7 ppg.
The Fever could be good enough on offense to give the Storm a solid fight. But it is hard to have faith in them enough to say they can win. First, they need to prove they can beat a good team on the road before we can do that (maybe Seattle will be that team....).
