Canada vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina: BTTS Yes (+100) at DraftKings

We begin our BTTS predictions today football with Canada, the second of the three co-hosts to begin its campaign. Canada has never won a World Cup game before, an unwanted record it is desperate to banish this summer. While the current Canada odds to win World Cup glory reflect their position as outsiders, a victory today would be a massive statement. However, a clean sheet will probably be beyond Jesse Marsch’s men today, with both teams likely to score when Canada faces Bosnia & Herzegovina.

There were positives to take from Canada’s performances at World Cup 2022, even if it did not get that elusive victory. Yet Canada was a little naive in Qatar, which can be put down to a lack of experience at the highest level.

Four years on and Canada is a more productive offensive force. It has failed to score in only one of its last six matches. With pace out wide and Jonathan David up front, Canada has the tools to breach Bosnia & Herzegovina’s backline.

Helpfully for Marsch’s side, Bosnia  & Herzegovina is not a rock-solid outfit. It has conceded in eight of its last nine matches, while its last clean sheet on foreign soil came against European minnows San Marino, which places 211th out of 211 in the FIFA World Rankings.

Yet with its veteran center-forward Edin Dzeko still going strong at 40, Bosnia & Herzegovina usually finds a way to score, even if it is not always pretty. It has made the net bulge in 14 of its last 15 games, and scored in 100 percent of its qualifiers.

Meanwhile, there have been goals at both ends in eight of Bosnia & Herzegovina’s last nine fixtures. Choose both teams to score when Canada faces Bosnia & Herzegovina at +100 with DraftKings.

USA vs. Paraguay: BTTS No (-130) at DraftKings

The second of our both teams to score tips reaches a different conclusion for the USA vs Paraguay, where we do not expect both teams to find the back of the net. While the Team USA odds to win World Cup are drawing plenty of attention as the co-hosts kick off their tournament, the Americans must first focus on taking care of business in their opening match.

Paraguay, you feel, would be happy enough with a goalless draw in its opening match. It will not necessarily play for a stalemate, but Gustavo Alfaro’s team will not take many risks. Paraguay scored only 14 goals in 18 qualifiers in South America; it failed to score in precisely half of those matches.

Paraguay borders Brazil, but its soccer tradition is very different. For years, the national team has prided itself on virtues like hard work, defensive doggedness, and mental resilience. Alfaro is Argentinian rather than Paraguayan, but he is a good fit for the latter’s ethos. A cautious tactician, he will focus on making his team hard to beat.

Paraguay will double down on its defensive approach now that Julio Enciso, its best attacking player, has been ruled out of today’s game. The Strasbourg attacking midfielder was stretchered off against Nicaragua last week, and while he hopes to still play a role at this World Cup, he will not feature against the USA.

Paraguay will struggle to score on matchday one. If it does find a way past the USMNT goalkeeper, Paraguay will hold on for dear life. Given its lack of firepower, it is much easier to envisage a 1-0 win for Alfaro’s team than a 2-1 or 3-2 triumph. Given all that, we recommend backing both teams not to score at -130 with DraftKings.
