Spain kicks off its World Cup 2026 campaign against a new face in Cape Verde.
Our recommended bet for Spain vs Cape Verde comes in the anytime goalscorer market, one of the most popular soccer player props out there. Mikel Oyarzabal is our pick to find the back of the net during this match, as we get our first look at the pre-tournament favorite Spain.
It is not hard to see why the best online sportsbooks rate Spain as the most likely champion this summer. It won Euro 2024 in style, beating Croatia, Italy, Germany, France and England along the way. Its possession-based approach is a good fit for the heat and humidity in North America. And in Lamine Yamal, Spain has one of the best players on the planet in its roster.
Yamal was an injury doubt for this game, but it looks like he will play some part today after a quick recovery. But Oyarzabal is our choice to get his name on the scoresheet. He struck in Spain’s 3-1 victory over Peru in a tune-up friendly last week, and will start up front against World Cup debutants Cape Verde. Back Oyarzabal to score any time at -180 with DraftKings.

Belgium faces Egypt on matchday one, as the Los Angeles Stadium hosts the start of Group G.
Belgium’s golden generation was not quite able to win a major trophy, although a third-place finish at World Cup 2018 was respectable. There are still a few members of that generation involved today, namely Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois and Axel Witsel. The first three of those are in line to start against Egypt.
If Belgium is to have a successful summer, it will be because of its offense. Lukaku has had a mixed few years at club level, but he has scored 90 goals in 126 matches for Belgium. De Bruyne can still influence games at this level, while Jeremy Doku’s speed and trickery makes him a nightmare to defend against.
Egypt’s backline will have its work cut out. The Pharaohs will play a cautious brand of soccer, as they do at every World Cup. But that will not necessarily be enough to keep the likes of Lukaku, Doku, De Bruyne and Leandro Trossard quiet for the full 90 minutes.
In warm-up friendlies against Croatia and Tunisia, Belgium scored either side of the interval. Tip it to score in both halves again today at +160 with DraftKings.

Two-time world champion Uruguay gets the ball rolling against Saudi Arabia.
Uruguay is a perennial dark horse at World Cups and that is the case again this summer, but the mood in the camp could be better. Marcelo Bielsa is thought to be unpopular with several of his players. The veteran Argentinian manager even admitted recently that he is “toxic” to be around. That is not an ideal setup at a major tournament.
Yet few national teams are as good as Uruguay at digging in when the time comes. La Celeste will compete every time it enters the field, and the group stage draw gives it the chance to play its way into the competition. Uruguay will fancy its chances of finishing above Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, although not Spain.
Yet Saudi Arabia could make life difficult for Uruguay in the first half of this match. It will defend in a low block and be tough to break down. Uruguay is a pressing team, but Saudi Arabia will negate that threat by playing direct soccer. It will take a while for Bielsa’s side to create clear-cut chances.
With that in mind, pick the second half to be higher scoring than the first at +105 with DraftKings, as it was in each of Uruguay’s last three victories.

Iran and New Zealand play their first match at World Cup 2026 in Los Angeles.
We finish our recommended daily World Cup team props with Iran vs New Zealand. This is unlikely to be one of the most entertaining games of the group stage, and the viewing figures will probably be the lowest of all today’s matches. But in its own way, this is a fascinating encounter.
Iran’s preparations for the tournament have been far from perfect. It had to move its base camp to Mexico and was permitted only a brief entry period before the game against New Zealand. Whereas the All Whites have had time to acclimatize to conditions in Los Angeles, Iran is pretty much straight in and out.
Despite that, Iran will view this as a winnable game. It tends to be strong after the interval, and has not lost a second half in any of its last 10 outings. New Zealand, for its part, has won just one of its last 12 second halves. Select Iran to win the second half at +125 with DraftKings.
