The Pairing of Bally’s and the Phoenix Mercury is Historic

On July 1, Bally’s Corp. and the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury officially start to team up together in a partnership created to take advantage of the upcoming Sept. 9 launch of Arizona sports betting.

This agreement makes Bally’s the exclusive sports betting partner of the Phoenix Mercury basketball team for the next 15 years with a starting date of July 1, 2021, a unique pairing that is automatically historic as it becomes the first gaming access deal ever done with a professional woman’s sports team.

Bally’s is a gaming and interactive entertainment co. based in Rhode Island that owns and operates 14 casinos across ten states, a horse track in Colorado, as well as access to OSB licenses in 14 states.

This mutually attractive pairing comes after Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed sports betting legislation into law back in April and joined the many other states that are now taking advantage of the new online sports betting opportunities now available.

With This Agreement, Bally’s Now Becomes a “Changemaker Partner”

The Phoenix Mercury has created the “Phoenix Mercury Changemaker Partners,” a prominent group of companies (including Fry’s Food Stores, PayPal, and Verizon) that value diversity, equity, and inclusion.

As part of this historic sports betting pairing, Bally’s becomes one of these Changemaker Partners and lends its powerful name to this already impressive and effective corporate grouping whose goal is to make a positive social impact in the world of women’s professional sports.

As a Changemaker Partner, Bally’s will now have the opportunity to make a huge difference in how female athletes and fans are thought of and treated in the ever-evolving arena of pro-female athletics.

CEO & President of the Phoenix Mercury, Jason Rowley, told reporters:

This agreement represents so much more than a team sponsorship; it is a reflection of our shared values and commitment to investing in diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Phoenix Mercury Bring a Winning Philosophy to this Coupling

Arizona’s sports betting legislation allows for 10 licenses to be designated for professional sports organizations, and the Mercury are one of the teams expected to receive one.

Since the WNBA’s inaugural season in 1997, the Phoenix Mercury are one of only three original basketball franchises in the league that remain, giving them true credibility, as does their impressive history of winning.

So far in the almost two and a half decades, they have competed in the WNBA, the Mercury have brought home three championships, 15 playoff appearances, 29 All-Stars, and 400+ regular-season wins.

With a triplet of star players – Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and Skylar Diggins-Smith – about to represent the United States in the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo, this history of winning and winners no doubt played a part in making the Phoenix Mercury a desirable partner in this momentous endeavor.
