Cadillac Championship Predictions: Make it Matsuyama

Published: April 29, 2026, 07:00 AM ET
7 min read

The Cadillac Championship fell off the PGA Tour schedule in 2016 when it was played as a World Golf Championship event.

Ten years on, it returns as a Signature Event with a 72-man field.

The constant linking the past and the present is the Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral.

Measuring in at over 7,700 yards, the par 72 is now the second longest track on the PGA Tour behind the South Course at Torrey Pines.

It does, though, have the longest hole: the 667-yard 12th.

The Dick Wilson design was revamped by Gil Hanse. It has three-inch rough and Bermudagrass greens which run at 12 on the Stimpmeter.

In terms of course form, the last five winners of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral are listed below. Note all the familiar names.

To help solve this week’s puzzle, the course was also used for LIV Golf Miami in both 2024 and 2025.

Those two events were won by big-hitting South African Dean Burmester and Aussie Marc Leishman.

The winning scores were -11 (Burmester) and -6 (Leishman) respectively although remember that those events were played over 54 holes.

  • This is the first PGA Tour event at The Blue Monster Course since 2016

  • It’s the fifth Signature Event of the season

  • Double Masters champion Rory McIlroy sits this one out

Favorites to Win the Cadillac Championship 2026

Scottie Scheffler (+320) at BetMGM

Scheffler won his opening event of the season before, in relative terms, losing some spark with a run of 12-24-22. But he looked back to his best on the weekend of The Masters, finishing just one back from Rory McIlroy, and again finished runner-up at the following week’s RBC Heritage. While he’s never played this course competitively, Scheffler is a multiple winner in Florida via two wins each at Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass.

Cameron Young (+1100) at BetMGM

Young briefly had a two-shot lead in the final round of The Masters before slipping back to tied third. That came after a brilliant victory in THE PLAYERS Championship and third at Bay Hill so those big performances in Florida bode well for this week’s test. Young, who was 25th at Hilton Head the week after Augusta, is another newbie at the course. Like Scheffler, he wasn’t on the PGA Tour when it was last used.

Collin Morikawa (+1600) at BetMGM

A third 20-something at the front of the betting so, once more, Morikawa never played The Blue Monster back in the day. The Californian was touch-and-go for The Masters due to a back injury and clearly wasn’t quite right but he battled away to finish seventh and then added fourth at Hilton Head last week. Starting with his win at Pebble Beach in February, Morikawa owns stellar current form of 1-7-5-7-4. As for form in the Sunshine State he won the WGC-Workday Championship there in 2021 and his last three Florida starts have resulted in fifth, 10th and second.

Back Matsuyama to Tame Blue Monster

The last four winners of the previous PGA Tour event held at Doral you may recognize from another list.

Adam Scott, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Tiger Woods are all Masters winners while the other, Justin Rose, has done everything but win the Green Jacket.

That helps point us in the direction of 2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama.

In truth, the Japanese star has strong claims even without that Augusta link.

Matsuyama looks close to a win after five top 13s in his last eight starts, the best of those a second place in Phoenix.

He’s ranked in the top 10 for Strokes Gained: Approach in his last two starts and the putter is starting to heat up a little again too.

The 11-time PGA Tour winner has actually played this course before in his younger days while he has some good previous form in Florida at both Bay Hill and Sawgrass.

Back Matsuyama each-way at +2800 (1/5 1-2-3-4-5-6) with BetMGM.

Scott to Beat Rose

Justin Rose is a course winner and so nearly took victory at this year’s Masters.

But I’m prepared to back fellow veteran Adam Scott to beat Rose in a match bet.

First, there is the disappointment factor. Rose struggled after his Augusta heartache last year and he could find it hard to shake off this latest near-miss.

Second, he’s just launched a new deal with Formula One giants McLaren and will be using their brand new golf equipment this week.

That’s a risk and it’s asking a lot for him to shine straight away in this company.

Scott looks a solid option to beat him.

The Aussie is also a course winner and we can widen that out to specialist given that his Blue Monster form is outstanding: 1-4-25-3-13-6.

As for current form, he’s made every cut this season and has five top 30s in his last six starts.

Back Scott to beat Rose in a 72-hole match at -135 with Caesars Sportsbook.

Fowler for Top 10

Rickie Fowler was eighth at the RBC Heritage last time and ninth at Bay Hill on his penultimate start in Florida.

When combined with his past course form, he looks a good option at +333 with BetMGM for a Top 10 bet here.

Fowler, now a Florida resident, owns two previous top eights and a 12th at Doral so it’s a course he plays well.
