Truist Championship 2026 Prediction

Truist Championship 2026 Intro

Rory McIlroy is back!

The last time we saw the Northern Irishman he was capturing a second Masters Green Jacket in thrilling style.

Now the six-time major champion returns to action at the course where he produced a remarkable weekend charge to secure his first PGA Tour win back in 2010.

This is the latest Signature Event and many of the top names will see it as ideal prep for next week’s PGA Championship - the second major of the season.

Not everyone though. Scottie Scheffler actually won last year’s PGA Championship at this very course but he’s decided that a week off is the best way forward to defend his title at Aronimink in Pennsylvania last week.

Due to Quail Hollow staging last year’s PGA, this event was held at Philadelphia Cricket Club 12 months ago, Sepp Straka emerging as the winner.

But the tournament returns to its usual home for the 2026 edition, the lengthy and tough Quail Hollow.

The hardest part of the course comes down the stretch which should make for an intriguing finish.

The 16th (par 4), 17th (par 3) and 18th (par 4) are nicknamed ‘The Green Mile’ and traditionally play as the most difficult three holes on the course.

Note also this week that there is a second PGA Tour event - the Myrtle Beach Classic. It’s just the third running of the tournament, the first two won by Chris Gotterup and Ryan Fox.

Both those two are in this week’s field of 72 at Quail Hollow.

Last 5 Winners of the Truist Championship

YearChampion, nationality and winning score
2025Sepp Straka (Austria) -16 (held at Philadelphia Cricket Club)
2024Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) -17
2023Wyndham Clark (United States) -19
2022Max Homa (United States) -8
2021Rory McIlroy (England) -10

Course Notes

  • Quail Hollow is a par 71 that measures 7,583 yards

  • It features TifEagle Bermuda grass greens that could run at 13 on the Stimpmeter

  • The weather forecast suggest storms could be a factor on day one before it settles down

  • Rory McIlroy (2015) holds the 18-hole course record of 61

  • Wyndham Clark (2023) holds the 72-hole record of 265

Favorites to Win the Truist Championship 2026

Rory McIlroy (+600) at BetMGM

Rory shot 66-62 on the weekend to come from joint last to win here by four shots in 2010. His other victories were achieved with winning margins of seven (2015), one (2021) and four (2024). Oh, he also has a second place and four other top 10s at Quail Hollow. Last year in his first start after winning the Masters he finished 12th in the Zurich Classic pairs event and then seventh at this event so it took him a little while to find his very best again.

Cameron Young (+900) at BetMGM

Young comes in off an absolutely dominant six-shot win at the Cadillac Championship where he opened with a 64 and never let up. That’s now two high-class victories in four starts following his victory at THE PLAYERS Championship and let’s not forget he led The Masters by two on Sunday before finishing third. Young is in the form of his life so perhaps we throw out rather modest course form of 59-34-47, the latter coming in last year’s PGA Championship.

Xander Schauffele (+1000) at BetMGM

The win won’t come but Schauffele is bubbling under after connecting seven top 25s, a run which includes a third (PLAYERS), fourth (Valspar) and seventh (Genesis). Also ninth at The Masters, the Californian has finished runner-up the last two times Quail Hollow staged this event (2023 and 2024). In other words, everything points to a big challenge.

Burns to Bank Win

Being long off the tee is a big advantage here - ask Rory McIlroy - so looking for a player in the top 20 of the Driving Distance charts makes plenty of sense.

Of course, they need more than that as this is an all-round test but Sam Burns definitely fits the right profile.

The big hitter from Louisiana was a major factor at The Masters before finishing seventh while he also made the top 15 in THE PLAYERS.

The five-time PGA Tour winner was 13th the last time this event was held at Quail Hollow (sixth after 54 holes) while he also made the top 20 here in last year’s PGA Championship.

The last five winners of the Truist at Quail Hollow were ranked 8th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 1st for Strokes Gained: Putting which again plays into Burns’ hands.

He’s 10th for SG: Putting on the season-long charts and is definitely one of the best around with the flatstick.

Back Burns each-way at +2500 (1/5 1-2-3-4-5-6) with BetMGM.

Fowler to Beat MacIntyre

We landed last week’s 72-hole match bet with ease as Adam Scott beat Justin Rose by a massive 13 strokes.

This week let’s back Rickie Fowler to get the better of Robert MacIntyre.

As with McIlroy, this is also the scene of Fowler’s first PGA Tour win and he has three other top sixes at the course.

The Californian is also in fine form after posting top 10s in his last two starts (Heritage and Cadillac).

MacIntyre has gone off the boil in the last few weeks, opening with an 80 at The Masters (MC) and then finishing 42nd at the RBC Heritage.

In addition, he was only 47th here at Quail Hollow in last year’s PGA and has never made the top 40 in five starts in North Carolina.

Back Fowler at -105 with Caesars Sportsbook.

Smalley for Top 10

Fowler landed us a top 10 bet with his ninth place at Doral last week.

Here, the top 10 wager is in-form Alex Smalley at +475 with Caesars.

This is a home game for the North Carolina resident, who has finished runner-up (Zurich Classic pairs event) and seventh (Cadillac) in his last two starts.

At Quail Hollow, Smalley was 18th in his one appearance in this event in 2023 and 28th when it staged the 2025 PGA.
